What You’ll Do:
Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Vice President, Tax Manager to lead key aspects of the Bank’s tax function. This role will be responsible for managing the tax reporting, compliance and risk management, including assisting in evaluating the tax implication of strategic initiatives and investments. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in corporate taxation within the financial services or banking industry.
This position will report to the Senior Vice President, Senior Director of Tax & Finance and will be based in our corporate offices at West Reading, PA.
Key Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the preparation and review of quarterly and annual income tax provision calculations in accordance with ASC 740 while managing external tax consultants.
- Manage tax-related disclosures for SEC filings (10-Q & 10-K) ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Assist in the gathering and preparation of tax support workpapers required for preparation of annual federal, state and local income tax returns.
- Review of federal, state, and local income tax returns and all reporting schedules, including extensions and estimated quarterly tax payments, prepared by external tax service providers.
- Prepare all estimated quarterly tax payments and extensions.
- Maintain the tax balances on the general ledger, including the reconciliation of tax-related accounts.
- Assist gathering and preparation of materials required for annual external audits and regulatory exams.
- Maintain quarterly SOX 404 internal control procedures for tax accounting, including improvements to existing policies and procedures.
- Oversee the tax payment schedules and delivery of tax filings to taxing authorities.
- Monitor pending tax legislation and analyze potential impact on the company’s planning and business strategies.
What Do You Need?
- 5-12 + years of progressive tax experience, preferably within banking or financial services.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. corporate tax, including ASC 740 and SEC reporting requirements.
- Experience with publicly traded companies is strongly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, local tax laws and compliance; high proficiency in corporate tax return preparation and research, including multi-state taxation.
- Strong analytic, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain cross-functional working relationships.
- Ability to thrive in a hands-on and fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited University.
- CPA designation required.
- Strong technology skills. This includes, but is not limited to MS Office products (Excel, Word).
Preferred Experience:
- Big 4 or large public accounting background.
- Experience with bank-specific tax issues.
- Familiarity with tax software (e.g., OneSource, Corptax) and ERP systems.
Technology Skills:
- Ability to work with the Microsoft Suite and learn/work with other Customers Bank’s applications.
