About This Position

OBJECTIVE AND POSITION SUMMARY

The Community Programs Advocate plays a vital role in empowering low-income individuals, families, and seniors by connecting them with essential community resources and supportive services. This position combines direct client advocacy with program coordination responsibilities under initiatives such as the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) and intergenerational volunteer programs like Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions. The Advocate will provide personalized support to help clients overcome barriers to self-sufficiency, while also recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers who offer companionship and mentorship to vulnerable populations. Through education, outreach, and collaborative partnerships, the Community Programs Advocate fosters a supportive environment that strengthens individuals, promotes intergenerational connections, and enhances the overall well-being of the community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Education /Background:

  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree in a related field (Social Work, Human Services, etc.) preferred
  • At least 1 year of experience in social services, case management, or community outreach preferred, but not required
  • Experience working with seniors and low-income individuals or families is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation (if applicable)
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong time management skills to meet established deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to keep accurate records
  • Experience using case management software is helpful but not required
