About This Position

OBJECTIVE AND POSITION SUMMARY

The Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Program Coordinator is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operations of the Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion programs. The coordinator will work to recruit, train, and support senior volunteers, matching them with individuals in need of companionship and mentoring. The goal is to enhance the lives of seniors and those they serve through meaningful volunteerism, fostering inter-generational connections, and supporting the health and well-being of both the volunteers and program recipients.

SPECIALIZATIONS

Volunteer Support:

  • Recruiting, training, and guiding volunteers to ensure they succeed in their roles

Program Coordination:

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the program and ensuring it runs smoothly

Building Relationships:

  • Connecting volunteers with program recipients and fostering positive, meaningful interactions

Community Outreach:

  • Promoting the program in the community and forming partnerships to increase volunteer involvement

Training & Development:

  • Providing ongoing training and resources to help volunteers improve and succeed

Problem Solving:

  • Addressing any challenges that arise between volunteers and program recipients

Tracking & Reporting:

  • Keeping track of volunteer hours, program progress, and outcomes, and preparing reports for stakeholders

Senior Advocacy:

  • Understanding the needs of seniors and ensuring they have the support they require through the program

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Education /Background:

Education & Experience:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required;
    • a Bachelor’s degree in a related field (social work, human services, etc.) is preferred
  • At least 1 year of experience working with volunteers or in community-based programs preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be needed for community visits and outreach (if applicable)
  • Background checks are required to ensure the safety of volunteers and participants
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and stay on track
  • Good communication skills to work with volunteers, program participants, and community partners
