FACILITIES & MAINTENANCE LEAD in Long Beach, California at SHIELD MANAGEMENT GROUP, LLC

The Facilities Maintenance & Operations Lead is the working leader of the department. This position combines daily team direction with substantial hands-on responsibility for diagnosing problems, completing practical repairs, maintaining equipment and building systems, and keeping the facility safe, clean, organized, and production-ready. The Lead is expected to take ownership, respond with urgency, communicate clearly, and actively resolve issues rather than only assign work. The role supports warehouse and facilities activities while serving as the primary day-to-day point of direction for current staff. Fluency in both Spanish and English is required to lead, train, and communicate effectively across the team.

• Lead from the floor and set the pace through visible, hands-on participation in repairs, inspections, cleanup, organization, and operational support.

• Assign and prioritize daily work, confirm expectations, monitor progress, and follow through until tasks are safely and fully completed.

• Build accountability through clear direction, respectful coaching, consistent standards, and timely correction of performance or safety concerns.

• Develop team capability by demonstrating proper work methods, cross-training employees, and explaining instructions in Spanish and English as needed.

• Act as the first point of escalation for facility and warehouse issues; assess the problem, stabilize the situation, determine the next action, and keep management informed.

• Model strong work ethic, reliability, integrity, sound judgment, and respect for company property, coworkers, and regulated operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform and lead routine facility repairs and corrective work involving doors, locks, shelving, fixtures, walls, flooring, plumbing components, basic electrical components, lighting, carts, racks, and other building or warehouse equipment within training and authorization.

• Troubleshoot mechanical and operational problems using observation, basic testing, manuals, and practical repair methods; identify root causes when possible and verify that repairs hold.

• Complete preventive maintenance checks and scheduled service tasks; maintain clear records of inspections, repairs, parts used, open items, and follow-up dates.

• Respond promptly to leaks, equipment failures, damaged fixtures, safety hazards, and facility interruptions. Secure the area, make safe temporary corrections when appropriate, and escalate work requiring licensed trades or specialized vendors.

• Coordinate vendors and contractors by defining the issue, obtaining approvals, providing access, monitoring work, and confirming satisfactory completion.

• Maintain tools, spare parts, maintenance supplies, keys, ladders, and safety equipment in serviceable and organized condition; identify replenishment needs before shortages affect operations.

• Inspect interior and exterior work areas for damage, wear, sanitation concerns, trip hazards, blocked access, improper storage, or other conditions requiring correction.

• Support warehouse operations, including loading and unloading trucks, organizing materials between locations, building outgoing pallets, fulfilling internal requests, and operating approved equipment.

• Coordinate with production, procurement, security, compliance, and other departments to schedule work with minimal disruption and support facility readiness.

• Ensure work areas remain clean and orderly during and after every task. Establish housekeeping standards and verify team compliance.

• Enforce PPE, ladder safety, chemical handling, forklift rules, lockout/tagout where applicable, and all company safety procedures. Stop unsafe work and report incidents or hazards immediately.

• Follow cannabis-industry security, inventory, access-control, and compliance requirements applicable to the facility and assigned work.

• Participate in emergency response, after-hours calls, or schedule changes when business needs require, subject to company policy.

• Perform other related duties needed to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

• Fluent bilingual communication in Spanish and English, including the ability to give instructions, train employees, discuss safety concerns, and document work clearly.

• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and confidence using common hand and power tools safely.

• Practical ability to inspect, diagnose, repair, adjust, assemble, install, and maintain facility and warehouse equipment.

• Working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, hardware, painting, patching, and general building-maintenance practices. This role does not replace licensed trade work when a license or specialist is required.

• Ability to organize competing priorities, make sound decisions under pressure, and maintain momentum without constant supervision.

• Leadership presence with the ability to earn trust, set standards, hold employees accountable, and resolve day-to-day conflicts professionally.

• Strong follow-through and documentation habits, including work orders, maintenance logs, inspection checklists, inventory records, and status updates.

• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, equipment manuals, operating instructions, diagrams, labels, and written procedures.

• Basic computer skills, including email, spreadsheets, work-order or inventory systems, and digital recordkeeping.

• Ability to work effectively across departments in a fast-paced, regulated manufacturing environment.

• High school diploma or equivalent experience required; technical, mechanical, facilities, or skilled-trades training is preferred.

• Three or more years of hands-on facilities, building maintenance, mechanical repair, manufacturing support, warehouse operations, or closely related experience.

• At least one year of experience directing daily work, training employees, serving as a lead, or taking responsibility for completion of team assignments.

• Prior experience in a manufacturing, distribution, cultivation, food-production, or similarly regulated environment is preferred.

• Must be at least 21 years old, consistent with cannabis-industry requirements.

• Valid driver authorization may be required based on company vehicle responsibilities.

• Forklift certification is preferred; must be able to obtain company-required equipment certifications.
