Job Description

Senior Data Engineer Microsoft Fabric

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Data Engineer – Microsoft Fabric in Canada.

This role is a senior technical opportunity for an experienced data engineer to take ownership of a modern cloud-based Data Hub built on Microsoft Fabric. You will play a key role in designing and operating a scalable lakehouse architecture that transforms raw data into trusted, high-quality data products used across technical and business teams. Working in a highly collaborative yet autonomous environment, you will define data standards, build robust pipelines, and ensure the reliability and performance of production data systems. You will partner closely with data analysts, data scientists, and architects to translate requirements into well-structured, domain-aligned data models. This position requires strong technical depth combined with the ability to think in terms of data products and platform ownership. It is ideal for someone who enjoys building foundational data infrastructure that enables analytics, AI, and business decision-making at scale.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, build, and own the Microsoft Fabric lakehouse architecture using a medallion model (Bronze, Silver, Gold) to ensure structured data transformation and governance.
  • Develop and maintain robust, idempotent data pipelines with strong data validation, quality checks, and monitoring at each processing layer.
  • Define data products, schemas, ownership boundaries, SLAs, and documentation standards for the Data Hub platform.
  • Collaborate with architects and stakeholders to define and enforce enterprise data architecture standards.
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness of data across ingestion, transformation, and consumption layers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across pipelines, transformations, and downstream data usage.
  • Partner with data scientists, analysts, and business teams to deliver reliable, well-structured data products.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on data engineering best practices across teams.
  • Document data flows, pipelines, and operational processes to ensure maintainability and scalability.
Requirements:
  • Senior-level experience in data engineering with ownership of production-grade data platforms.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in Microsoft Fabric or Azure Databricks environments.
  • Deep experience with PySpark, Spark SQL, and Delta Lake, including performance tuning and partitioning strategies.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, analytics-oriented database design, and data product thinking.
  • Experience building and maintaining data pipelines in Azure ecosystems (e.g., Synapse, Fabric, Databricks).
  • Familiarity with event-driven ingestion patterns and tools such as Azure Event Hubs (strong asset).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control using GitHub-based workflows.
  • Strong operational mindset with experience supporting production data systems.
  • Ability to work independently and take full technical ownership of data solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating in cross-functional environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a balance of technical depth and pragmatic decision-making.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation aligned with senior-level expertise
  • Remote-first role within Canada, with preference for Eastern Canada-based candidates
  • Opportunity to own and shape a modern Microsoft Fabric data platform
  • Exposure to large-scale cloud data engineering and lakehouse architecture
  • Collaborative, cross-functional environment with high technical autonomy
  • Work on impactful data products supporting analytics and business decision-making
  • Opportunity to influence data standards, architecture, and engineering practices
  • Continuous learning and growth in modern Azure and Fabric technologies
  • Inclusive and supportive engineering culture focused on quality and ownership
