Job Description

EMPLOYEMENT TYPE
Part-time, with potential to transition to full-time based on business needs, performance, and mutual fit.

WORK LOCATION
This role may be performed remotely, with occasional virtual meetings and collaboration with project teams during standard business hours.

DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Technical Writer-Editor to own and lead the development of technical documents and public-facing materials from intake through final delivery. This role is ideal for an early to mid-career professional who enjoys translating complex technical information into clear, visually engaging, and user-friendly content.

The Technical Writer-Editor will collaborate closely with engineers, planners, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams to identify required technical content, develop document outlines, coordinate content development tasks, and ensure deliverables meet quality standards and deadlines.

This role requires strong writing, editing, organizational, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to manage multiple moving pieces throughout the document lifecycle. Responsibilities include developing templates and style guides, creating and refining technical content and visuals, reviewing and editing contributions from others, identifying content gaps, supporting accessibility requirements, and ensuring consistency across all deliverables.

The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, comfortable working independently with minimal direction, and capable of driving projects forward through proactive communication and follow-up. This individual should also be open to leveraging AI tools and emerging technologies to improve documentation quality, efficiency, consistency, and workflow processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

DOCUMENT OWNERSHIP AND PROJECT COORDINATION
• Own and manage document development projects from intake through final delivery
• Collaborate with technical teams and subject matter experts to identify required content, supporting data, and visuals
• Develop document outlines, schedules, and content plans
• Coordinate content development assignments, status updates, review cycles, and deliverable check-ins
• Track milestones, follow up on outstanding items, and help ensure deadlines are met
• Communicate project status, risks, and needs proactively

TECHNICAL WRITING, EDITING, AND QUALITY CONTROL
• Develop, edit, and refine technical documents and public-facing materials for clarity, accuracy, readability, and consistency
• Translate complex technical information into concise, user-friendly content for a variety of audiences
• Review and edit content from multiple contributors to ensure proper grammar, spelling, tone, formatting, style, and technical consistency
• Identify content gaps, inconsistencies, or unclear information and recommend improvements
• Ensure all deliverables follow established QA/QC processes and document standards

TEMPLATES, FORMATTING, AND ACCESSIBILITY
• Create and maintain document templates, styles, formatting standards, and style guides
• Ensure consistency in document layout, structure, branding, and formatting across deliverables
• Support accessibility requirements and best practices for document usability and compliance
• Train and support team members in the use of templates, styles, and document standards

VISUAL CONTENT DEVELOPMENT
• Develop and refine visuals that improve document clarity and usability, including diagrams, annotated screenshots, graphics, tables, infographics, and presentation materials
• Assist in identifying and developing supporting visuals and graphics needed to strengthen technical content
• Apply strong visual organization and layout principles to improve readability and user experience

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT AND INNOVATION
• Utilize AI tools and emerging technologies to support writing, editing, formatting, quality control, and workflow efficiency
• Identify opportunities to improve documentation processes, consistency, and collaboration workflows
• Contribute ideas and solutions that enhance document quality, efficiency, and team productivity

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPEREINCE
• 1–3 years of experience in technical writing, editing, communications, planning, or related work
• Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and document organization skills
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines simultaneously
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow projects through to completion
• Experience developing or working within document templates, styles, and formatting standards
• Ability to clearly communicate complex information through written and visual formats
• Experience supporting or developing technical visuals and graphics preferred
• Familiarity with accessibility standards and document usability best practices preferred
• Comfort learning and utilizing AI tools to support innovation, efficiency, and quality improvement
• Ability to train and support others in the use of templates, styles, and document standards
• Must have reliable internet access and the ability to participate in virtual meetings, screen-sharing sessions, and collaborative document reviews.
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and collaborative document review tools.
