Job Description
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for an Associate Technical Director – Interconnection Services in Canada.
This senior technical leadership role sits at the intersection of power systems engineering, grid modernization, and strategic client advisory services. You will contribute directly to shaping interconnection frameworks for generation, load, and transmission projects across major North American markets, with a focus on ISO New England and NYISO territories. Acting as both a technical authority and a mentor, you will guide complex studies, support engineering teams, and influence best practices in modeling and system analysis. The role blends hands-on technical execution with client-facing advisory responsibilities, requiring both deep engineering expertise and strong commercial awareness. You will play a key part in improving interconnection processes, reducing project risk, and accelerating timelines for critical energy infrastructure. This position also involves collaborating with senior leadership to shape service offerings and support strategic growth initiatives. It is a remote-friendly role with occasional travel.
You will lead advanced technical work in interconnection studies while shaping engineering standards, mentoring teams, and supporting clients navigating complex grid integration challenges.
- Lead and execute complex load and generation interconnection studies aligned with ISO and utility methodologies
- Oversee model benchmarking and validation for generation and load projects, ensuring compliance with evolving technical requirements
- Act as a subject matter expert in interconnection studies, maintaining awareness of regulatory and industry developments
- Strengthen technical delivery frameworks, QA/QC processes, and engineering standards to ensure consistency and quality
- Mentor and coach engineering staff, fostering technical excellence, ownership, and client readiness
- Represent technical expertise in industry forums, conferences, and technical publications
- Advise clients on interconnection strategies, risks, and optimization opportunities in ISO-NE and NYISO markets
- Review and validate interconnection study results, identifying risks and recommending cost and schedule improvements
- Translate complex engineering outcomes into clear, actionable recommendations for stakeholders
- Collaborate with leadership on service development, tools, and go-to-market strategies
- Support proposal development and RFP responses with strong technical input
This role requires deep experience in power systems and interconnection studies, combined with strong analytical, communication, and leadership capabilities.
- 8+ years of experience in the electric power or energy industry
- Direct exposure to ISO New England, NYISO, or similar utility/interconnection environments
- Hands-on experience with interconnection and transmission planning study types (e.g., MIS/DIS, deliverability studies, cluster studies, or load interconnection modeling)
- Strong expertise in IBR modeling, generation/load interconnection studies, or transmission system analysis
- Solid understanding of Northeast interconnection standards and utility requirements
- Proficiency with industry tools such as PSSE, TARA, PSLF, PowerWorld, ASPEN, or PSCAD
- Ability to bridge technical analysis with commercial and strategic decision-making
- Strong communication skills with confidence presenting and defending technical findings
- Proven ability to work independently and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
- Experience with EMT modeling (PSCAD), automation tools (Python, C#, SQL), or broader interconnection markets is considered an asset
This position offers a competitive, flexible, and innovation-driven environment focused on professional growth and technical impact.
- Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, and vision with full premium coverage for employees
- Generous paid time off and paid holidays
- Employee ownership program with long-term value participation
- 401(k) retirement plan with up to 4% company match, fully vested from day one
- Flexible work arrangements, including remote and hybrid options
- Opportunity to work alongside leading experts in power systems and grid modernization
- Participation in high-impact projects shaping the future of energy infrastructure
- Occasional travel (approximately 10% or less), depending on project needs.
