The Atlanta History Center is looking for a dependable, service-oriented Loading Dock & Swan Gate Guard to help us bring unforgettable private events to life. In this role, you’ll be the welcoming face and vital support system for our private events department—overseeing vendor load-ins, keeping event spaces secure and organized, and collaborating with our internal teams to ensure a flawless experience for every guest, vendor, and partner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide courteous, professional service to guests, vendors, event partners, and staff.
- Ensure the loading dock and Swan Gate areas are clean, organized, and prepared prior to vendor or guest arrival.
- Understand, follow, and help enforce Atlanta History Center event guidelines, access procedures, and required checklists.
- Monitor and coordinate load-in and load-out activities for caterers, florists, audiovisual providers, entertainment vendors, rental companies, transportation providers, and other approved vendors.
- Ensure vehicles are moved from the loading dock once active loading or unloading is complete.
- Monitor and control approved vehicle and pedestrian access through Swan Gate during events.
- Communicate clearly and promptly with Event Managers, Security, and other staff via radio throughout each shift.
- Maintain proper gate positioning and event setup, including keeping “Staff Only” signage visible as directed.
- Permit access for approved vendors, wedding parties, rideshare vehicles, limousines, and guests requiring accessible entry, while redirecting unauthorized vehicles and oversized buses to appropriate entrances.
- Provide clear parking and traffic-flow instructions to guests and vendors, including Swan parking lot closure procedures and relocation to the main parking deck.
- Help prevent unauthorized access to private event areas, including unapproved photo shoots, dog walkers, or visitors not associated with the event.
- Contact Security as needed regarding improperly parked vehicles, traffic concerns, access issues, or safety-related matters.
- Confirm that vendors leave the loading dock and surrounding areas clean, orderly, and free of event-related materials upon departure.
- Help protect Atlanta History Center property and contribute to a polished arrival and departure experience for all private events.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Strong customer service, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain professional, calm, and confident when enforcing policies, providing directions, and managing traffic flow.
- Ability to interact respectfully and effectively with guests, vendors, event staff, and security personnel.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment within established procedures.
- Availability to work a variable schedule based on event needs, including evenings, weekends, and shifts that may extend as late as 2:00 AM.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to use a two-way radio and communicate clearly with staff and Security.
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain alert for extended periods during assigned shifts, with or without reasonable accommodation.
