Job Description
Position Title: Environmental Specialist
Location: Des Moines, IA, United States
Description:
The environmental specialist manages, maintains and analyzes key environmental and sustainability data needed for the support of senior management reports, indices and trend analysis. The position involves contact with the general public, government agencies, law firms, management and co-workers and is required to maintain an exemplary level of confidentiality.
Responsibilities:
Provides support to the BHE senior vice president-chief environment and sustainability officer and the environmental audit and policy teams. Prepares and maintains confidential data and records, coordinates reporting of world-wide business platforms' environmental activities, drafts correspondence, prepares weekly corporate reports, reviews monthly corporate reports, and proofreads, revises and distributes environmental compliance audit reports (40%); processes invoices and expense reports (15%); responds to periodic data requests and compliance inquiries from regulatory agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency, state environmental agencies and other regulatory bodies (15%); provides travel assistance and support, schedules meetings, makes conference call arrangements, and fields phone calls and emails from internal and external customers (15%); responds to inquiries and provides problem resolution based on policies and procedures or past experiences and performs any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned (15%).
Qualifications:
Associate's degree in business, liberal arts or the equivalent related work experience. (Typically three years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate's degree.) A minimum of four years of experience in an administrative/secretarial role. Effective oral and written communication skills to process information timely and accurately. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other common business software applications. Effective analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills; an environmental focus and the ability to work as a member in a team-oriented environment. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
