Job Description

Description:

Department: Design

Reports To: Design Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview:

Join Bach’s in-house design team and help shape apartment communities from early concept through construction and final installation.

Unlike a traditional design-firm role, this position offers direct involvement with ownership, development, architecture, construction and property operations - allowing designers to understand how design decisions affect the entire life of a community and to see their ideas carried through to completion.

Since 1976, Bach has grown across homebuilding, apartment construction, land development and property management. Bach builds, owns and manages apartment communities throughout multiple states, providing designers with exposure to a diverse and active project portfolio.

This role offers the opportunity to:

  • Work on meaningful, large-scale communities with a long-term impact.
  • Participate in projects from initial concept through completed installation.
  • Collaborate directly with company ownership and internal development and construction teams.
  • Build both creative and technical interior-design experience.
  • Grow into greater project responsibility within an expanding in-house design department.

Key Responsibilities:

Concept and Design Development
  • Collaborate with the Design Manager to develop interior concepts for multifamily communities, including amenity spaces, leasing environments, model units and other shared spaces.
  • Research design direction, materials, furniture, lighting, artwork and accessories.
  • Develop mood boards, finish palettes, material selections and cohesive project narratives.
  • Prepare design and finish presentations for internal review and ownership approval.
  • Participate in presentations alongside the Design Manager and help incorporate feedback into the final design direction.
Finish Packages and Documentation
  • Develop approved concepts into comprehensive interior finish packages.
  • Prepare finish schedules, specifications, floor finish plans, elevations, details and other design documentation.
  • Coordinate finish, fixture, lighting and equipment selections with architectural and construction documents.
  • Maintain organized product information, samples, specifications and project records.
  • Work with architects, consultants, contractors and vendors to clarify design intent and support accurate execution.
Construction and Project Support
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, samples and substitution requests related to the interior design scope.
  • Respond to design questions and assist with resolving field conditions during construction.
  • Participate in project meetings and site visits as projects progress.
  • Help track design decisions, approvals and outstanding project items.
  • Support furniture, fixture and equipment selections, purchasing coordination and installation planning when required.
  • Assist with final styling, installation and project closeout.
Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Degree in Interior Design or related field preferred.
  • Approximately three or more years of professional interior design experience.
  • Experience in multifamily, hospitality, residential or commercial interior design preferred.
  • Experience contributing to projects from concept development through documentation.
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong design thinking, finish selection and presentation skills is required.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
  • Experience with SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite and rendering software is preferred.
  • Ability to prepare clear and accurate finish schedules, plans, elevations and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of interior materials, furniture, lighting, millwork and construction detailing.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and project-management tools.
Professional Skills
  • Strong design judgment and the ability to develop cohesive, project-specific concepts.
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments at different stages of development.
  • Clear written, verbal and visual communication skills.
  • Comfortable presenting ideas and receiving feedback.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to ask questions, learn new processes and take increasing ownership over time.
  • Ability to participate in occasional site visits, travel and installation activities.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary range of $65,000-$75,000 based on experience and qualifications.
  • Full benefits package.
  • Bonus opportunity.
  • Company-provided computer, software and equipment required for the position.
  • Fleet vehicles or mileage reimbursement for approved project travel.
  • Access to job-related training and professional-development opportunities.
  • Paid time off and company holidays in accordance with company policy.
Work Environment

This is a full-time, in-office position based at Bach’s Draper, Utah office. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
