Job Description
INTRODUCTION:
Central Neighborhood Health Foundation is a Federally Qualified Healthcare Center committed to the Triple Aim as described by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. Improving the US Health Care System requires simultaneous pursuit of three aims: 1) improving the experience of care, 2) improving the health of populations and 3) reducing per capita costs of health care. Preconditions for this include the enrollment of an identified population, a commitment to universality for its members, and the existence of an organization (an "integrator") that accepts responsibility for all three aims for that population.
SUMMARY:
Draws blood from patients or donors in hospital, blood bank, or similar facility for analysis or
other medical purposes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assembles equipment such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles,blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray according to requirements for specified tests or procedures.
Verifies or records identity of patient or donor and converses with patient or donor to allay fear of procedure.
Applies tourniquet to arm, locates accessible vein, swabs puncture area with antiseptic, and inserts needle into vein to draw blood into collection tube or bag.
Withdraws needle, applies treatment to puncture site, and labels and stores blood container for subsequent processing.
Pricks finger to draw blood.
Conducts interviews, takes vital signs, and draws and tests blood samples to screen donors at blood bank.
Order supplies from laboratories
Verify orders/change order if not done correctly by provider/order labs on behalf of providers.
Centrifuge blood/freeze.
Schedule pickups for certain bloodwork (ex. AFP/genetic screening).
Collect other samples such as urine, stool, and breath tests.
Sterilize instruments.
Schedule appointments.
Scan any labs not on interface.
Handle stat orders.
Billing such as ICD-10 codes and insurance verifications needed by laboratories so we don’t get billed.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to collect and analyze utilization data
Driving the mobile unit and willing to learn.
Cleaning the mobile unit and completing inventory
Driver checklist to be completed upon arrival to corporate from the site.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Highschool Diploma or equivalent
Completion of an accredited State Certification Phlebotomist program
Knowledge and experience with Electronic Medical Records.
Minimum 2 years related experience.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and other external parties in a courteous and friendly manner at all times
Superior customer service skills.
NECESSARY SKILLS:
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone.
Ability to relate to persons with diverse educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.
Ability to handle a “call center” environment; work quickly and multi-task.
Ability to exercise good judgment to handle calls appropriately.
Ability to demonstrate good customer service.
Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and possess strong time management skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to Drive
Ability to lift 50lb
Policy
