Job Description

Emergency Department Technician

POSITION PURPOSE
- Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), the Emergency Department Technician provides patient care for all patients throughout the lifespan.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
- High School plus specialized training for EMT, C.N.A. or Medical Assistant (2 months to 2 years)
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Entry Level
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
- Current status as a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT), a licensed Wisconsin Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic, a Wisconsin Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) or a Medical Assistant (MA) who is a graduate of an associate degree program for Medical Assisting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Performs technical skills under the supervision of the Emergency Department physicians and RNs for all patients throughout the lifespan.
- Assists medical and nursing staff with patient data collections, patient care, clerical duties and documents/communicates appropriately.
- Assists with facilitating interdepartmental and inter-hospital patient transfers as well as patient transfers between the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers and the Emergency Department.
