About This Position
Summary: This underwriting position works closely with Underwriting leadership, Product Management, and Claims departments to ensure programs and processes align with the corporate strategy. The Commercial Underwriter is capable of underwriting business with limited support and has thorough knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and governance.
Note: This is a hybrid position that would require attendance at our St. Petersburg, FL office.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conducts new business and renewal underwriting to ensure acceptability of risks and to improve the performance of the book of business.
- Maintains relationships with brokers in furtherance of profitable underwriting-eligible risks.
- Contributes to the development, implementation, and monitoring of all underwriting rules, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborates with Product Management on underwriting guidelines and quick reference guides.
- Participates in cross-departmental projects, including audits and user acceptance testing.
- Fosters a culture of innovation, transparency, and accountability within the department and between department and others in the organization.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job description.

Education/Licensure: Bachelor's degree preferred. Professional designation/coursework (AIM, AINS, AU, AIC, ARM or CPCU) preferred.
Experience: One (1) to Four (4) years of experience in Commercial residential property underwriting.
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of the Education and Experience requirements listed above.

- Strong interpersonal expertise, including use of tact, patience, courtesy, and collaboration.
- Demonstrable computer application skills including Microsoft Office Suite of programs and the ability to learn various internal and/or proprietary software packages.
- Microsoft Excel experience: intermediate skill level.
- Strong understanding of insurance products, financials, policy systems and service requirements.
- Effective use of office machinery such as photocopiers, printers, and scanners.
