Position Overview
The Room Inspector ensures that all guest rooms and associated public spaces meet the hotel's standards for cleanliness, appearance, functionality, safety, and readiness before being made available to guests. This role upholds brand standards by conducting detailed inspections, providing coaching to room attendants, and maintaining strong communication with housekeeping and front office teams.
What You'll Do
Room & Area Inspections
- Conduct detailed, systematic inspections of cleaned guest rooms, bathrooms, balconies, and related areas to ensure they meet brand standards for cleanliness and presentation.
- Verify that all amenities, linens, towels, and supplies are stocked, neatly arranged, and in excellent condition.
- Update room status in the Property Management System (PMS), ensuring rooms are accurately marked as clean, inspected, and ready.
- Identify and report maintenance issues such as HVAC problems, lighting concerns, plumbing issues, or malfunctioning electronics, and follow up for timely resolution.
Team Support & Training
- Communicate inspection results and deficiencies immediately to room attendants and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
- Assist with training new housekeeping team members and provide ongoing guidance to ensure consistent adherence to cleaning standards.
- Monitor the performance and daily activities of room attendants to ensure accuracy, quality, and timely completion of assigned tasks.
- Perform room attendant duties as needed, including cleaning, stripping beds, or stocking supplies during high occupancy or staffing shortages.
Communication & Guest Support
- Maintain close communication with Front Office regarding room readiness, early check-ins, VIP status rooms, and any delays that may impact guest arrivals.
- Clearly communicate maintenance issues to the Engineering team and follow work orders until repairs are completed and rooms re-inspected.
- Respond promptly to guest requests or complaints related to housekeeping or cleanliness.
- Expedite guest requests for extra amenities such as towels, pillows, or blankets.
- Ensure housekeeping carts and closets are properly stocked, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs.
- Maintain regular, reliable attendance as an essential function of the role.
What You'll Bring
Required Skills and Abilities
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to identify even the smallest cleanliness or presentation issues.
- Strong knowledge of hotel or brand-specific cleaning, sanitation, and safety protocols, including OSHA and MSDS standards.
- Ability to accurately identify and report maintenance issues and follow up as needed.
- Ability to verify proper stocking, presentation, and arrangement of all in-room amenities.
- Proficiency in Property Management Systems (PMS) and basic computer software such as Excel or Word.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide supportive direction and feedback.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
- Prior housekeeping experience required.
