Position Summary
The Custodian plays a vital role in supporting the mission of the school by maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized environment that promotes learning and community engagement. This position ensures that all facilities are properly maintained and operational, contributing directly to the effectiveness of staff and students. The Custodian exercises sound judgment in daily responsibilities while adhering to organizational policies and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Uphold and support the mission and philosophy of the Catholic School
- Model Gospel values through professional conduct and daily interactions
- Follow all Religious Standards, policies, and procedures of the Archdiocese
- Maintain strict confidentiality in all sensitive matters
- Perform daily cleaning of classrooms, offices, kitchens, hallways, and carpeted areas
- Clean, disinfect, and restock bathrooms to ensure hygiene and safety standards
- Remove trash from all areas, including offices and dining spaces, on a daily basis
- Carry out scheduled deep cleaning tasks (weekly, monthly, and seasonal)
- Assist with setup and breakdown for meetings, events, and school activities
- Routinely disinfect high-touch surfaces such as door handles, phones, and switches
- Maintain exterior areas, including entrances and walkways, in a clean and safe condition
- Apply proper sanitation practices and universal precautions in all cleaning duties
- Secure facilities by managing keys, locking buildings, adjusting thermostats, and turning off lights
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and strong work ethic at all times
- Maintain a consistent schedule that supports staff and school operations
Additional Responsibilities
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to maintain a positive and efficient work environment
- Respond promptly to emergency cleanups and minor repair needs
- Perform routine maintenance tasks and basic repairs as needed
- Coordinate with and monitor external contractors when applicable
- Communicate facility issues and maintenance needs to the principal in a timely manner

- Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church

Working Conditions
- Required to work some nights and weekends
- Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress
- Required to work a minimum of a full school day
- Required to work in standard work conditions
Mental/Physical Demands
- Required to lift or carry furniture, equipment, and supplies
- Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of anger
- Required to perform strenuous walking, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing, climbing, twisting, grasping, and reaching overhead
- Required to hear, see, and speak on a daily basis
- Required to work with chemicals, exposure to dust, and slippery and uneven walking surfaces
- Required to work in various climate conditions
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, preferred
- Experience with past custodial work or building maintenance preferred but not required
License and Credentials
- Reliable transportation
- Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening
- Must pass Texas DPS Fingerprint-based Applicant Clearinghouse screening
