The CAD Technician / Draftsman is responsible for preparing detailed construction drawings, layouts, and 3D models to support roadway, bridge, and heavy-highway projects. This position works closely with engineers, project managers, and field personnel to develop accurate, timely, and constructible plans that reflect Siema Construction’s commitment to our core values.

1. Prepare, modify, and update 2D and 3D CAD drawings for roadways, bridges, drainage, and site layouts using AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar software.
2. Interpret engineering designs, survey data, and construction plans to develop accurate models, cross-sections, and quantities.
3. Support estimating and project management teams with takeoffs, plan sheets, and as-built drawings.
4. Create and maintain digital terrain models (DTMs) and machine control files for GPS-equipped construction equipment.
5. Ensure drawings comply with state DOT standards, specifications, and company drafting procedures.
6. Collaborate with field supervisors and survey personnel to confirm constructibility and coordinate updates.
7. Maintain organized files and drawing logs for current and archived projects.
8. Review and correct drawing discrepancies and communicate changes to appropriate project stakeholders.
9. Participate in continuous improvement of CAD standards, templates, and file management processes.

1. Minimum 3 years of experience drafting for roadway, bridge, or heavy-civil construction.
2. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (required); knowledge of MicroStation, Revit, or other platforms is a plus.
3. Strong understanding of civil construction drawings, grading, alignment, and plan/profile sheets.
4. Ability to interpret and apply DOT specifications and standard plans.
5. Experience coordinating with engineers, surveyors, and project managers.
6. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all work.
7. Strong organizational and communication skills.
8. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

1. Associate degree or technical diploma in Drafting, Design Technology, Civil Engineering, or related field.
2. Familiarity with LA DOTD design standards.
3. Experience producing machine control files for GPS-guided equipment (Trimble).
4. Prior experience with quantity takeoffs and estimating support.
5. Field experience or knowledge of construction sequencing and methods.
