Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Technical Supervisor, obtains and prepares specimens for analysis and also performs various waived screening tests on neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Assists with lab supply inventory and various clerical duties. The Phlebotomist maintains a cooperative working relationship with patients, patients’ families, medical staff, and interdepartmental and intradepartmental personnel. Reports to the Director of Laboratory Services.
Compensation
We are committed to providing wage ranges for all open positions. Please note that the specific compensation for this role will be determined based on experience, education and internal equity considerations. The hourly wage range for this position is $17.84–$25.18. This range reflects the base salary for this position.
Key Accountabilities
-
Verifies positive patient identification and test requisitions/orders for laboratory testing.
Obtains blood specimens using proper aseptic techniques including venipunctures and fingersticks.
Ensures that specimen requirements are met at the time of collection and maintains specimen integrity.
Processes specimens to prepare samples for laboratory testing.
Performs/maintains competency for lab testing as directed by Laboratory Technical Supervisor.
Performs quality control and instrument checks for the applicable tests.
Assists with laboratory supply inventory, including stocking and ordering as needed.
Performs clerical functions associated with the laboratory department.
Practices Universal Body Substance Precautions.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must be enrolled in NH+C RQI program for BLS certification and complete the requirements within 90 days of enrollment. Must remain current (complete quarterly assignments prior to the end of each calendar quarter).
- Must be able to speak, read, and write English proficiently to ensure safe and effective communication in a healthcare environment.
- Initial Crisis Prevention Certification (CPI) within six months.
- Saturday/Sunday; 2:00 PM - 10:00pm
- 2 weekend shifts each month
