About This Position
Maintain a business hours presence at the fire training grounds and beavailable to Fire and Rescue agencies during regular business hours(Monday through Friday, 0800-1700). This position may also requireoccasional night and weekend hours to support classes being delivered.
Coordinates continuing education fi re training courses; maintainsrelationships with fi re departments with regular visits; attends fi reassociation meetings; and maintains college website on Fire Rescue for information regarding contact information, course schedules, events and marketing.
Works closely with the Henderson County Fire Marshall’s office for scheduling, training, and collaboration. Specifically, this position will share in the responsibility of scheduling the Fire Training Grounds.
Plan, develop, supervise, and evaluate all courses and programs within the Fire Rescue programs for continuing education (CE).
Develop, approve, schedule, and market all courses and activities in the CE program area for Fire Services.
Development and oversight of seated and online Fire, Rescue, and EMS training required by the Fire & Rescue agencies and their personnel in Henderson and Transylvania County.
Ensures that marketing, recruiting, and retaining students are expectations for all members of the department and program areas.
Establish and maintain all relations with county, city and municipal emergency services facilities.
Employ, supervise, and evaluate instructors and staff for program areas.
Implements College policies and procedures.
Establishes and sets goals for the department with input from department deans, faculty, chairs, directors, coordinators, the VP for EWD/CE, and the NCCCS.
Oversees the development and implementation of program and unit assessment plans, and provides support for faculty to ensure the success of those plans.
Leads and supervises instructors in assigned department to ensure deadlines, assessments, and State requirements are met for CE programs.
Develops, monitors, and plans effective utilization of budget resources for the department.
Teach as needed for the Fire & Rescue continuing education programs.
Maintains course outlines, materials, and records, including textbook, equipment and software selection for CE Fire Services programs.
Establish and conduct working relationship with local EMS systems.
Develop and maintain contacts/agreements/placement options for required educational and field experiences.
Coordinate and manage required contracts and external program agreements.
Evaluate, manage, and schedule overall facility and program equipment/supply resources for program area.
Maintain the fire training grounds and associated equipment located at the HCC campus and coordinate equipment use with participating county, city and municipal emergency services facilities.
Develop and coordinate instructor development and training activities.
Assist in the creation and maintenance of brochures, mailings, databases, and directories as needed.
Represent the College at appropriate meetings, activities, and conferences.
Coordinates with the North Carolina Community College’s Fire Training manager, OSFM, NCEM standard to develop and manage new and
expanding training projects.Ensures compliance with policies of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.
Additionally
Maintain technical competencies necessary to the job function.Serves on campus and community committees.
Ensures Advisory boards meet at least once a year in all assigned areas.
Develops and oversees Fire Academy.
Develops and oversees Fire Rescue College
Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Public Safety and the Vice President for Economic and Workforce Development/ Continuing Education.
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Associate Degree in Fire Protection or Emergency Service-related field preferred.
Training
NCOSFM Qualified Level II Firefighter Instructor. Certified EMT (NREMT or NCEMT required, Level I Instructor preferred).
Experience
All persons must provide verifiable and relevant professional experience in a workplace setting or demonstrated instructional/teaching environment.
Skills and the Know-How
Must maintain credentials necessary for assigned program area. Possess strong personal and professional integrity, effective verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety. Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, database systems, College email and website, and other computer applications associated with the position. Bi-lingual
preferred. Must maintain current NCOSFM Level II Firefighter Instructor and EMT
certification. A strong commitment to safety and use of personal protective equipment.
Physical Demands
The ability to perform all duties associated with the position, including, but not
limited to, lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating
or performing work with associated tools and machines. Must be physically able
to perform task levels commensurate with a firefighter/rescue technician.
