SSA Marine is seeking a permanent Superintendent to join our SSA Marine Canada team. This full-time, permanent position is based at our office in North Vancouver and reports to the Operations Manager.


The Position


The Superintendent provides on-site vessel supervision of operations and personnel including planning, coordination, reporting and follow-up of ship loading and discharging activities in accordance with productivity, safety and quality standards.


You will be part of a motivated and diverse team and will have a high degree of interaction with all employees throughout the organization.


Responsibilities & Activities

Ensure full adherence to all safety policies and procedures, address non‑compliance, guide investigations, support emergency response, and promote a strong safety culture.Attend JHSC meetings, contribute to Safety Blitz initiatives, andparticipatein safety-related seminars, training, and continuous improvement efforts.Coordinate cargo operationlogisticswith shipping partners, lead pre-planning meetings, anddeterminelabourand equipment requirements for each vessel operation.Oversee cargo loading/discharge across BC ports, collaborate with Forepersons, support union-related processes, manage work refusals, andassistwith recruitment and onboarding.Provide real-time operational updates, evaluate operations against contracts, support payroll and delay documentation, prepare post-operation reports, lead investigations, andidentifyinnovation opportunities.Qualifications & Skills

Post‑secondary diploma or degree in a related field.Strong stevedoring and marine industry background.Knowledge of operational procedures, company policies, and SOPs.Ability to interpret and apply Collective Agreements.Solid understanding of rigging practices.Leadership experience in a unionized environment.Excellent communication, facilitation, and conflict‑resolution skills.Strong leadership, interpersonal skills, and business acumen.Sound judgment, critical thinking, and problem‑solving abilities.Ability to work under pressure, adapt toshiftingschedules, andmaintainstrong stakeholder relationships.Benefits of Working with SSA Marine
