Job Description

Provides utility, delivery and janitorial services; performs tasks related to the maintenance of buildings, grounds, vehicles and equipment.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Stores, moves and delivers furniture, materials, supplies and equipment. Assembles and disassembles furniture, shelving and equipment.
- Performs seasonal grounds maintenance tasks including manual snow removal and sanding operations; maintenance of roads, walks and parking lots; lawn and bed maintenance; clean-up duties.
- Prepares rooms by moving and arranging chairs, desks, tables and other related furniture and equipment. Provides set up and take down support for special events.
- Prepares non-technical, routine facilities maintenance tasks and assists maintenance trades personnel:
- Unplug plumbing fixture with a plunger
- Cean out roof drains and eaves troughs
- Replenish soap and paper towel dispensers
- Hang clocks and replace batteries
- Sand wood and apply edging to shelves
- Performs janitorial duties and replenishes washroom supplies.
- Recycles and disposes of waste and surplus materials, performs litter control and empties refuse containers.
- Replaces fluorescent tubes and incandescent bulbs.
- Operates, cleans and performs minor maintenance on passenger and delivery vehicles and light duty equipment.
- Installs and maintains signage, portable fire extinguishers, parking meters, and parking curbs and barriers.
- Investigates and performs pest control.
- Provides traffic control and support to emergency
REPORTS TO
Assistant Director, Building Operations
EDUCATION
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License
EXPERIENCE
- Six months' related experience including forklift operation
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB
- Ability to deal with others effectively
- Ability to operate related equipment such as a variety of hand and power tools, ladders and lifts, snow blower, power broom, pressure washer, dollies, vacuum, forklift, and delivery vehicles
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Exposure to extremes of heat, cold, inclement weather, temperature fluctuations
- Exposure to noise, dust, dirt, fumes, noxious odorous, poor ventilation, restrictive work areas
- Exposure to accident hazards and hazardous materials
- Lifting weights greater than 20 kg
