About This Position
|
- Responsible for managing the Physician Coder/Auditors and Physician Coding Coordinator’s daily duties and performance.
- Responsible for Human Resource related duties such as hiring, performance evaluations, developing staff schedules, and coordinating staff coverage.
- Responsible for monitoring coding-related workqueues in Epic.
- Responsible for Coder/Auditor training and cross training.
- Responsible for reviewing and sharing pertinent information from insurance companies, AAPC and other reliable resources.
- Responsible for scheduling and conducting new provider onboarding education and scheduling provider education training as related to coding.
- Responsible for reviewing and communicating insurance guidelines to ensure coder/auditors are following proper coding/documentation practices.
- Responsible for acting as a resource for Physicians Billing and Clinic staff with issues related to documentation and/or compliance.
- Responsible for ensuring coder/auditors are interacting with their respective physicians to clarify diagnoses or procedures and reeducating when necessary.
- Ensuring coder/auditors maintain their respective certifications.
- Responsible for seeking out resources, including appropriate management staff, for questions or other issues.

POSITION SPECIFIC STANDARDS |
- Manage Physician Coder/Auditors and Physician Coder/Auditor Coordinator.
- Responsible for hiring, performance evaluations and staffing coverage for the Physician Coder/Auditors.
- Coordinates training and cross training opportunities the Physician Coder/Auditors.
- Monitors coding related work queues in Epic. Work with coder when issues are found.
- Assists Coder/Auditor with accurate coding of provider documentation according to documentation guidelines and evaluates proper use of inpatient and outpatient codes on all provider charges.
- Consistently monitors the providers’ compliance with the established coding and documentation guidelines. Reports noncompliance to appropriate individual.
- Monitor provider and coder understanding and compliance with annual coding updates.
- Monitors providers’ compliance with the auditing program and reports noncompliance to the appropriate individual.
- Monitors insurance guidelines to ensure coding/documentation compliance. Distributes updates in a timely manner with Physicians Billing staff and/or clinic staff.
- Assists Physicians Billing staff and clinic staff with any coding or documentation related questions.
- Researches and resolves coding related problems as they are identified.
- Completes necessary continuing education to maintain certification.
