Compensation: $115,000.00-$180,000.00
The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles
Position Summary:
In collaboration with the Medical Director of Pathology and Vice President of Ancillary and Administrative Services, develops and manages the overall hospital strategy for clinical laboratory and respiratory services. Coordinates a wide variety of administrative, fiscal, and technical activities to ensure efficient operation of clinical laboratory and respiratory.
- Facilitates the coordination of the laboratory and respiratory services to include maintaining quality assurance programs, measuring and reporting on patient and physician expectations, developing short and long term goals for assigned areas (in conjunction with the Chairman of the department of Pathology) and developing programs, marketing plans and advertising campaigns to promote growth. Analyzes programs/service effectiveness and progress on an ongoing basis. 40%
- Develops and recommends department operating and capital budgets and ensures that department operates within fiscal budgetary parameters. Develops strategies to achieve goals for cost management and effectiveness and financial indicators to monitor progress, and for review and analysis of financial performance. 20%
- Participates in interdepartmental or multi-disciplinary groups to ensure that the department’s services are effectively integrated into the organization’s system for delivering patient care. Identifies opportunities for service area expansion across continuum of care. 10%
- Ensures that the operation of the department complies with the responsible accrediting and licensing agencies. Maintains departmental reports and records and collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes. 10%
- Monitors the laboratory and respiratory information systems/services of the department ensuring that proper records are retained and stored; interfaces with the billing department and hospital information systems department ensuring that the systems work correctly. 10%
- Selects, trains/orients and assigns department staff (either directly or through subordinates). Develops standard of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel action. Ensures that staff meets all educational and responsibility requirements for clinical laboratory testing as defined by federal law. 10%

- Performs both essential and marginal job functions in a safe manner as identified by Saint Anthony Hospital and the respective department while adhering to the Hospital’s confidentiality norms and standards. Actively and consistently demonstrates the core values of Saint Anthony Hospital in all interactions with others.
- Assumes responsibility for knowing and maintaining established hospital and departmental objectives, policies/procedures including general sanitation, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Participates in performance activities including problem identification, data collection, solution selection, implementation and evaluation. Also assists in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies as appropriate.
- Participates in staff meetings and other inservices, meetings or committees as required.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, workshops and committees for self and for staff. Attends and services on professional/civic service organizations as hospital representative.
Qualifications: (List any required knowledge, skills, experiences or training, including length of time necessary for proficiency, required to perform the job.)
- Through experience, the ability to understand all functional areas of the lab operations
- Demonstrated leadership and development skills
- Excellent human relations and verbal/written communication skills
- Previous management experience in hospital/healthcare setting
Education: Bachelors or 4 yrs of education/training exp
Experience: 5-7 yrs of Lab Director exp
