About This Position

The Coordinator will plan, deliver, and evaluate health promotion programming initiatives.
  • Primary duties include creating programs and materials to address the areas of mental health (suicide prevention) interpersonal relationships (including dating violence, sexual assault risk reduction, communication skills, consensual relationships, harassment and sexual misconduct), and Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) prevention/awareness. This will also include planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and initiatives focused on above topic areas. Coordination with wellness outreach projects in partnership with student organizations will be necessary. Developed programs will be based on specific campus population-based health needs and evidence-based interventions. The incumbent will use the American College Health Association's Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education, , and NCHA student health needs assessment data (and/or other college health status surveys) to guide decisions and priorities. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and maintaining high standards for education and prevention practice within parameters set by relevant professional groups, state and federal agencies and accreditation bodies.
  • The Coordinator will also provide consultation to assist students and staff in their response to cases involving AOD offenses. The Coordinator will administer and monitor on-line alcohol assessments for all first-year students and coordinate and facilitate activities and workshops for high-risk groups, implementing attractive alternatives to alcohol and drug settings working with Residence Life staff.
  • More duties include supervising and directing the peer health education program, and designing new wellness education programs, as well as discussing campus life and culture to work together to promote a balanced and healthy environment for the students. The Coordinator will also facilitate and manage the activities within this program from residence hall talks to campus wide speakers, awareness events, workshops, etc.
  • The Coordinator will also serve as a leadership position for the entire Campus Wellness Service area. They will work with other members of the wellness team to ensure that the mission and vision is followed.
  • The Coordinator will provide program direction and development as resources allow. Some articulation with student budgets will be needed. The individual in this position will also assist in developing and monitoring university response protocols related to Title IX, Clery Act, and Violence Against Women Act in regard to sexual assault and relationship and dating violence.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Master’s degree in Health Education/Promotion, Counseling and 2 years of relevant experience or related field required but candidates with a Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least four years of direct and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Experience conducting programming in the areas described above. Experience recruiting, coordinating, training, and evaluating undergraduate student peer educators.
  • Experienced presenter.
  • If active or with a history of physical or mental health condition, must provide a letter from a licensed health care practitioner, who is qualified by skills and training to address the condition identified, which explains the impact the condition may have on the ability to practice the profession with reasonable skill and safety. The letter must specify that the applicant is safe to practice the profession without restrictions or specifically indicate the restrictions that are necessary to enable performance of the essential functions.

Master’s degree in Health Education/Promotion, Counseling, or related field. 4 years of experience preferred in designing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating educational programs related to health and wellness. 4 years experience in prevention and health promotion in a university/college setting. Experience and/or interest in wellness coaching and behavioral health programming is desirable as is experience in Title IX.
