Job Description

Manager, Labor Relations

Job Summary

This position is responsible for managing employee and labor relations including policy administration and contract administration for all staff. Performs other assignments and special projects as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer employment policies and collective bargaining agreements in a collaborative, future-focused manner on behalf of HealthAlliance Hospital.
  • Serve as the lead investigator for all labor and employment related matters, including but not limited to employee disciplinary matters and harassment complaints.
  • Compile appropriate and necessary data for negotiations, including comparison information on wages and salaries, fringe benefits and comparative contract language to assure that HealthAlliance is appropriate and competitive in negotiating successor contracts and/or new contracts.
  • Directly or indirectly manage the employee problem-solving process and hear grievances/issue decisions, as required, in accordance with procedures set forth in applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Design, develop and implement supervisory professional development as it relates to directing the work of non-supervisory employees.
  • Assist in preparation for arbitrations and Employment Relations hearings.
  • Serve as policy analyst on labor and employee relations for the Vice President of Labor Relations.
  • Perform related duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of three years' progressively responsible management experience in a union environment in a related field is required; experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of and experience in labor and employee relations, organizational behavior and administration is required. Competence in software applications relating to human resources, including but not limited to Microsoft Office products and employment-focused specialized products for data management is required.

EDUCATION

Baccalaureate degree required; degree in Human Resources or related field of study is preferred. An advanced degree in employment law, labor and industrial relations, or business administration is preferred.
