Pay: $17/hr.

This is a part time position, starting at 15-20 hours with the opportunity to increase hours. Peers make their own schedule and will travel to nearby communities as well as serve other clients using zoom.

The family/parent support specialist must:

  • Identify as a “peer,” that is, be a parent or in a parenting role of a child with behavioral health issues.
  • The child must have lived with them for at least 3 years.
  • The child must have been diagnosed at least three years ago with: emotional, developmental, behavioral substance use or mental health concerns.
  • The child must have been involved in some or all of: special education, behavioral health, child welfare, juvenile justice

A Family/Parent Support Specialist is part of our behavioral health team, a multidisciplinary team of professionals who provide treatment and support to members of the program. As a member of the team, this person: assists parents of a child with a behavioral health diagnosis; supports them in navigating the various systems and links clients to a variety of local resources. They encourages families to move toward self-advocacy. This work is done in the office or remotely at home, at clients' residences, in the local community, and may involve travel and attending meetings.

The position seeks to foster relationships and skill building that improves both the family member's wellbeing and the child's wellbeing.

Requirements:
  • must have High School Diploma or GED
  • reliable vehicle and valid drivers license are required
  • identify as a peer as explained in job description
  • be able and willing to take the training to become a family/parent peer and be certified. We pay for time and training.
