This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Director, Engineering in Canada.
In this role, you will lead product engineering teams responsible for building and scaling critical systems that power large-scale customer communications used by thousands of companies worldwide. You will own high-impact, zero-to-one initiatives—most notably the design and delivery of a new billing platform that supports complex SaaS pricing models and usage-based workflows. This is a senior leadership position that blends strategic vision with hands-on technical execution, requiring close collaboration with Product, Finance, and Engineering leadership. You will be responsible for shaping engineering direction, building and mentoring high-performing teams, and driving execution across complex, cross-functional initiatives. The environment is fast-moving, highly autonomous, and deeply focused on ownership and outcomes. You will also play a key role in embedding modern, AI-driven engineering practices across the organization.
- Own the vision, roadmap, and execution of a new billing platform, including usage-based billing, subscription management, and multi-tier pricing systems.
- Lead and scale engineering teams, including engineering managers and senior technical leaders, ensuring strong delivery and team development.
- Partner with Product, Finance, and Engineering leadership to align technical strategy with business objectives and company growth priorities.
- Drive build-vs-buy decisions and oversee the delivery of complex platform initiatives from concept to production at scale.
- Establish engineering standards, operational excellence practices, and a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
- Champion the adoption of AI-driven engineering practices to improve velocity, quality, and team effectiveness.
- 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 8+ years in engineering leadership roles.
- 4+ years of experience managing engineering managers or directors in high-growth SaaS or marketplace environments.
- Proven track record of delivering zero-to-one platform or infrastructure initiatives that reached production at scale.
- Strong understanding of SaaS architecture, cloud-native systems, and build-vs-buy tradeoffs in complex platforms.
- Experience leading large, distributed engineering organizations and translating technical complexity into clear executive-level strategy.
- Demonstrated ability to build and scale high-performing teams, including hiring, mentoring, and organizational design.
- Strong communication skills and comfort operating in ambiguity while making high-stakes technical and strategic decisions.
- Competitive salary range of approximately USD 230,000–270,000 depending on experience and location.
