Job Description

Sr. Generative Design Lead (AEC)

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Sr. Generative Design Lead (AEC) in Canada.

This role sits at the intersection of architecture, engineering, construction, and advanced computational design, where you will lead the development of next-generation generative design solutions for complex built-environment projects. You will work within a cutting-edge AI-powered platform to design scalable, parametric, and data-driven workflows that improve efficiency, reduce cost, and enhance decision-making across the construction lifecycle. Collaborating with global teams of designers, engineers, BIM specialists, and technologists, you will translate complex design challenges into robust computational systems. This is a highly technical and creative leadership role that blends hands-on development in Grasshopper and Rhino Compute with strategic influence over design technology direction. You will also mentor designers, define best practices, and contribute to the evolution of advanced AEC digital workflows in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.

Accountabilities:

Lead the design, development, and deployment of generative and computational design systems that support large-scale AEC projects and improve design-to-delivery efficiency.

  • Drive the strategy and execution of generative and parametric design workflows across architecture, engineering, and construction use cases.
  • Develop and maintain advanced Grasshopper-based solutions and ensure they are scalable, modular, and aligned with project requirements.
  • Build custom APIs and integrations to enable interoperability between tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Excel, and other design platforms.
  • Create and implement Python and C# scripts, including custom nodes, plugins, and extensions for Rhino Compute and Grasshopper environments.
  • Define computational design standards, frameworks, and best practices across teams and projects.
  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of computational designers and design technologists, fostering collaboration and technical excellence.
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies in AI, generative design, and computational workflows to maintain innovation leadership.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, BIM specialists, and stakeholders to translate complex design requirements into actionable computational solutions.

Requirements:
Extensive experience in computational and generative design within the AEC industry, with strong technical expertise in Grasshopper, Rhino, and software development for design automation and digital construction workflows.

  • 10+ years of experience in computational design, design technology, or advanced digital design within AEC environments.
  • Proven expertise in Grasshopper, Rhino, and parametric/generative design methodologies.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and C#, including experience with Rhino Compute and custom plugin development.
  • Experience developing complex geometry, data-driven design systems, and scalable computational workflows.
  • Strong understanding of BIM workflows and AEC tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Dynamo, or similar platforms.
  • Experience building APIs and integrating multiple software systems within design and construction ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing or mentoring technical or multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A portfolio demonstrating real-world applications of computational or generative design in built projects.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package
  • Remote-first work environment with flexibility across North America
  • Generous paid time off
  • Health and wellness coverage
  • Career development opportunities, including training and professional growth support
  • Exposure to cutting-edge AI, generative design, and AEC innovation projects
  • Collaborative, global, and highly technical team environment
  • Opportunity to shape next-generation design technology in the construction industry
