Job Description

Engineering Manager, Data Science (AdTech)

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for an Engineering Manager, Data Science (AdTech) in Canada.

This role sits at the intersection of advanced machine learning, advertising technology, and engineering leadership, driving the next generation of data science systems in a high-scale performance marketing environment. You will lead a team responsible for building and optimizing ML models that directly impact revenue, advertiser outcomes, and user targeting precision. The position focuses on evolving legacy modeling approaches into deep learning and AI-native architectures, including sequence models, ranking systems, and real-time inference pipelines. You will also play a key role in shaping the transition toward agentic AI systems and automation-driven decisioning. Beyond technical leadership, you will mentor and grow a high-performing data science team while collaborating closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders. This is a hands-on leadership role where technical depth, strategic thinking, and commercial impact come together in a fast-paced AdTech environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced machine learning models for audience targeting, propensity prediction, and ROAS optimization
  • Drive the transition from traditional ML models to deep learning architectures, including sequence models, transformers, and neural ranking systems
  • Own value-based bidding and revenue optimization models that directly improve advertiser performance and business outcomes
  • Develop and scale real-time inference systems, feature stores, and low-latency ML serving pipelines in production environments
  • Advance experimentation frameworks, MLOps practices, and optimization strategies such as multi-armed bandits for business-driven learning
  • Explore and implement agentic AI systems and automation workflows to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency
  • Lead, mentor, and grow the data science team through hiring, coaching, and performance development
  • Partner with product, engineering, and business teams to translate complex ML outputs into actionable business insights
Requirements:
  • PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field
  • 8+ years of experience in data science or machine learning, including 2+ years in a technical leadership or management role
  • Strong expertise in AdTech machine learning systems, including ranking, retrieval, and recommendation architectures (e.g., DLRM, Two-Tower, MMoE)
  • Deep experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, as well as traditional ML tools like XGBoost and scikit-learn
  • Proven ability to deploy ML models into large-scale, low-latency production environments
  • Strong understanding of ROAS optimization, campaign performance modeling, and business-driven ML metrics
  • Experience translating technical model improvements into measurable business impact (revenue, ROI, unit economics)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Nice-to-have: experience with agentic frameworks (LangGraph, CrewAI, MCP), Databricks, MLflow, or real-time bidding systems
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary: $180,000–$225,000 CAD plus performance-based bonus
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching
  • Flexible work environment with remote-first structure in Canada
  • Paid time off, holidays, and professional development opportunities
  • Career growth within a high-impact, fast-scaling AdTech organization
  • Access to learning, training, and internal innovation initiatives
  • Collaborative and social team culture with events, outings, and engagement activities.
