Job Description
The function of the Supervisor-Machine Shop-Ennis is to direct and ensure that all phases of machine shop operations are conducted in an orderly, efficient manner according to established procedures and quality standards. Supervisor-Machine Shop-Ennis receives their authority from and reports to the Manager-Operations-Ennis.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for coordinating Pre-Process and Thread Shop work in such a manner as to make efficient use of manpower/equipment and meet customer delivery.
- Authorized, in conjunction with the Operations Manager, to hire, discipline and terminate employees under his/her authority and to evaluate personnel for ongoing training and advancement.
- Responsible for work assignments within the Pre-Process and Thread Shop.
- Conduct production meetings at shift change, as necessary, to maintain production flow and establish shift production schedules.
- Perform Monthly inventory check and requests consumables to the operations manager.
- Oversee production procedures and ensure that results are within specified requirements.
- Responsible for the conduct and promptness of employees under authority, and to ensure that Benoit policies are adhered to.
- Perform and/or supervise minor equipment repairs when practical or enlist the help of the Maintenance Dept. or a vendor service representative to minimize production interruptions.
- Support Machine Operators in trouble shooting nonconformance problems when necessary.
- Monitor the workload of CNC Operators to ensure continuous production.
- Enforce Benoit Safety and Environmental policies in their department.
- Investigate and complete accident reports on all accidents in department In collaboration with HSE Manager.
- Ensure that Pre-Process and Thread Shop personnel paperwork is properly completed in a timely manner.
- Oversee the performance of job responsibilities of the personnel under his authority to ensure that Benoit policies and SOPs are adhered to.
- Be available by phone, or other means, to assist with machine shop problems.
- Verify documentation and process setup for all New Workorders at the Pre-Process shop and Thread Shop.
- Function as a working supervisor; operate production equipment as needed to meet production requirements or when the department is short-handed.
- Maintain operational level proficiency on all equipment in the production and pre-process lines, including but not limited to CNC machines, turn and bore machines, swage machine, sandblaster units, material handling equipment, API gauges, and process and finish operations.
- Troubleshoot equipment and process issues independently and engage the Maintenance Dept. when an issue requires their involvement.
- Relieve shop floor personnel as needed and run their equipment, including gauging of parts, to maintain continuous production.
- Train shop floor employees in the operation of production and pre-process equipment and serve as the department master trainer.
Qualifications may include, but are not limited to:
- Bachelors, Associate’s or technical degree; or High School Diploma or GED with at least 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree
- Supervisor I:
- At least 2 years of experience in machining, pipe threading, or heavy manufacturing; at least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Coordinates the work of others
- Suggests process improvements and is a knowledgeable resource for other team members.
- Supervisor II:
- At least 3 years of experience in machining, pipe threading, or heavy manufacturing; at least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience
- Resolves production problems and answers questions about processes, methods, or equipment
- Reviews production to identify trends or potential performance issues
- Contributes to the development of processes and procedures
Additional Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of CNC equipment, production flow, and shop operations
- Read and interpret prints, drawings, specifications, and production reports
- Experience coordinating with Quality, Maintenance, and Operations
- Strong leadership skills, communication, trouble shooting and decision-making skills
- Effectively train, coach, and develop employees
- Must have and maintain a clean driving record and pass motor vehicle report (MVR) checks
- Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship, now or in the future
Physical requirements may include, but are not limited to:
- Effective verbal and written communication in English
- Read, understand, and follow written instructions in English
- Sufficient visual acuity to perform job duties safely and accurately
- Work in office, warehouse, production, or outdoor environments as required
- Drive company vehicles and travel for business purposes as needed, including in-town and out-of-town trips
- Lift, move, adjust, push, pull, and carry objects to waist height up to 100 lbs without assistance for changeovers in production and preprocess, typically a few times a week on the CNC machines and 3 to 4 times a day on swage
- Lift, carry, move, push, pull, and adjust objects from waist to shoulder height up to 60 lbs without assistance when handling sandbags, dope, clear coat, and any additional shop supplies
- Frequent standing, walking, and occasionally sitting
- Frequent bending, reaching, and use of stairs
- Frequent use of hand tools and equipment
- Use of computer, phone, copier, printer and other office equipment
- Exposure to noise, temperature variations, and shop environment

$3 shift differential for working night shift
