About This Position

  • POSITION PURPOSE
    • Performs routine and special diagnostic ultrasound procedures according to departmental and hospital policies. Operates and maintains all sonographic and ancillary equipment; assists with providing 24 hours a day, seven days.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
    • Associate Degree: Graduate of an accredited certification program in Ultrasound Technology or Radiologic Technology
  • MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
    • 3 months – 1 year
  • LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
    • Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 6 weeks of hire.
    • Ultrasound III shall include American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) registry in three or more disciplines: Abdominal, Obstetrics, Breast and/or Vascular.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
    • Minimum of three (3) months of full-time Sonographer experience or equivalent.
    • Ability to read, write, hear, speak and comprehend the English language fluently.
  • PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    • Operates ultrasound equipment associated with the performance of all ultrasound procedures, including portable, biopsies and emergency examinations. Recognizes and reports equipment malfunctions.
    • Follows ACR and department policies in order to maximize image view quality.
    • Assists with department coverage, including on-call hours.
    • Assists the Radiologists and physicians with biopsies and cyst aspirations. Sets upon the exam room and utilizes sterile techniques.
    • Operates teleradiology and ancillary equipment.
    • Schedules appointments and instructs patient with regard to preparation instructions.
    • Receives and records verbal orders from licensed independent practitioners for orders that are specific to the services provided by their department.
