Job Description
Position Summary: This position is responsible for assisting management in the oversight and training of MRI Technologists as well as for performing imaging exams generating quality images for diagnostic purposes. Modalities may include MRI, CT and/or X-ray.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Coordinator Role - approximately 30%:
- Assists with creating technologist schedule for MRI/CT for all assigned location to ensure appropriate coverage for all modalities.
- Coordinates on the job training for MRI/CT Technologists, including but not limited to new hires, retraining or updates to training for current staff.
- Coordinates clinical rotations for Radiologic Technologist students with schools and facilitates with Orthopedic One locations, leaders and other departments.
- Assists leadership in preparation of documentation and images required for ACR, ODH or other accrediting agencies for all locations.
- Provides primary support for scheduling routine maintenance for MRI/CT equipment at all locations.
- Maintains MRI protocol resource and communicates updates to technologists.
- Assists leadership in developing and completing annual competency reviews.
- Provides support to leadership in ordering and stocking imaging supplies from established vendors. Make recommendations for replacement or new equipment and supply needs.
- Makes recommendations to leadership regarding opportunities for process improvement. Facilitates the implementation of processes as instructed.
- Supports the department with researching implant information for MRI clearance, always prioritizing patient safety.
- Serves as a super-user for PACS system and supports the Manager, Diagnostic Imaging in user set up and training.
- May travel to other Orthopedic One locations, beyond home location, to provide coverage or to support training when required.
- Identifies and responds to patient complaints or concerns relating to MRI department involving manager appropriately.
- Other duties as assigned by operational leadership.
Patient Care/Imaging – approximately 70%:
- Escorts patient to and from exam and imaging rooms.
- Prepares patients for imaging procedures to include complete screening process with patient safety in mind.
- Takes images following established procedures for patient care and safety to include scanning all required anatomy and correct technical factors for highest quality images.
- Reviews images, makes quality adjustments and makes images available to physicians for review on computer system.
- Communicates concerns about imaging results to Radiologists so that further diagnostic decisions can be made.
- Prepares and administers contrast materials when indicated and instruct patients accordingly.
Equipment Maintenance and Safety:
- Ensures equipment is in working order and completes/maintains maintenance records as required.
- Troubleshoot problems with equipment or software and contact service providers when problems require a service call.
- Performs QA procedures according to instrument manufacturer’s recommendations.
Support Efficient Workflow:
- Accurate and timely completion of documentation to facilitate accurate billing for imaging and patient flow through clinic.
- Provides imaging studies for record release as requested by staff or patients and documents appropriately.
- Imaging rooms are cleaned and stocked with necessary supplies and communicate supply needs as needed.
Initiative:
- Seeks out assignments and assumes additional duties when patient permits.
- Proposes new ideas and suggests improvement to processes.
- Attempts to solve problems independently before involving supervisor or vendors.

- Works cooperatively with coworkers, providers, and management.

- Willingly provides coverage to department, staying beyond scheduled ending time when clinic schedule demands it, volunteering to cover time off or unexpected absences, maintaining workflow in department without direct supervision.

- Is considerate of others with regard to taking breaks or meal periods, use of computer and telephone, and noise in department.
Policies and Procedures:
- Knows and complies with policies and procedures as enumerated in the Orthopedic One Employee Handbook and policies and procedures documents.
- Provides assistance and support to leadership in implementing policies and procedures as necessary.
- Actively participates in training, and conducting day to day work activity by adhering to all policies and procedures as enumerated in compliance and risk management programs.
Education, Experience, and Certification/Licensure Required:
Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technology and MRI training program, with current State license and professional registry (ARRT) in Radiology and MRI or graduate of an accredited MRI Technologist program along with ARRT (MR) registry. Must maintain current CPR/AED certification. Candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years of recent advanced imaging experience, preferably including orthopedic specialty experience. Must maintain a current/valid Ohio driver’s license consistent with company policy on driving.
