Job Description
Plans, controls, and directs the materials supply base including vendor qualification, vendor management, KPI tracking, vendor quality and service performance and inventory monitoring for a network of manufacturing facilities. Planner is responsible for negotiating material costs and providing them as an input to the pricing manager for client project quotations. Ensures that materials are available to meet all co-packing and customer requirements.
• Analyzes customer production forecasts. Purchases and procures raw materials to meet customer demands, ensuring appropriate inventory levels and savings targets are met and expediting as needed
• Manages the maintenance of data into applicable systems to ensure precise creation of customers' products by Production. Partners with customer to obtain specifications, determine required materials, and schedule production to meet order requirements.
• Utilizes planning software system to determine replenishment levels needed for customer accounts and orders raw materials accordingly, determining the appropriate amount of materials necessary to meet current and forecasted production levels.
• Supports one or more sites/customers.
• Provides direct or indirect mentorship of junior Material Buyer/Planners.
• Tracks supply markets, meets with key vendors to evaluate supplies, and presents changes / recommendations to customers.
• Addresses issues with raw materials with vendors, including quality, quantity, scheduling, etc. to ensure inbound service & quality levels are met.
• Realizes annual improvement objectives in terms of total supply chain savings. That includes direct material cost, transportation, co-pack efficiency, service level improvements, process efficiency gains or other areas that yield an improved total result.
• Investigates and resolves inventory discrepancies for assigned customers.
• Develop report & interpret key performance metrics. Create & implement solutions to improve those metrics. That includes providing customer savings, meeting service objectives, reducing working capital required, and minimizing risk of obsolescence. Resolves any supplier inbound issues that require escalation from the sites. Develops, implements, and maintains departmental reporting as required by Management or customer utilizing appropriate systems and developed worksheets.
Required Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related discipline, required
• Experience in packaging & POP display including packaging design, manufacturing, logistics or merchandising, required
• 1-3 years experience managing inventory levels, required
• Certifications in APICS and/or LEAN Six Sigma, preferred
