Job Description
HMS Products is seeking an experienced Purchaser & Planner to join our team. This position is responsible for managing the procurement of materials, components, and services that support manufacturing operations and customer projects. The Purchaser & Planner plays a critical role in ensuring materials are available when needed, maintaining strong supplier relationships, and helping the organization achieve cost, quality, and delivery objectives.
The ideal candidate has experience in manufacturing purchasing, enjoys building supplier partnerships, and is comfortable working cross-functionally with Engineering, Production, Inventory, and Project Management to support production schedules and customer commitments.
Key ResponsibilitiesProcurement & Strategic SourcingSource mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, fabricated, and industrial components required for manufacturing and customer projects.
Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and delivery performance.
Solicit and analyze supplier quotations and negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, and delivery schedules.
Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
Support strategic sourcing initiatives that improve quality, reduce costs, and minimize supply chain risks.
Create, issue, and maintain purchase orders within the ERP system.
Monitor open purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery of materials and services.
Communicate with suppliers regarding order status, schedule changes, shortages, and delivery concerns.
Resolve discrepancies involving purchase orders, invoices, receipts, and shipments.
Maintain accurate purchasing records and supplier information.
Partner with Production and Inventory teams to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
Support inventory planning and just-in-time purchasing strategies where appropriate.
Monitor market trends and identify opportunities for cost savings.
Assist with project costing, procurement forecasting, and material planning.
Monitor supplier performance related to quality, cost, and delivery.
Support supplier evaluations and corrective action activities as needed.
Analyze purchasing data and prepare reports to identify trends and opportunities for process improvement.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen procurement and supply chain performance.
3–5 years of purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or related experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience sourcing industrial, mechanical, electrical, fabricated, or pneumatic components.
Experience negotiating pricing, supplier agreements, and delivery schedules.
Experience working with ERP/MRP systems.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and Teams.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Associate degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Procurement, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with E2 Manufacturing (E2 MFG) ERP software.
Knowledge of inventory control, production planning, and manufacturing supply chain processes.
