At RWJBarnabas Health, Vascular Technicians become part of a purpose-driven environment where teamwork, innovation, and compassionate care come together to support exceptional patient outcomes. This Vascular Technician role offers opportunities for professional growth, supportive collaboration, and a culture committed to quality, safety, and continuous improvement. As a Vascular Technician, you will play a critical role in performing high-quality non-invasive diagnostic vascular ultrasound examinations and physiological testing to evaluate patient circulatory systems while ensuring patients feel informed, comfortable, and cared for throughout their experience. Joining RWJBarnabas Health means joining a community where every Vascular Technician is encouraged to grow, innovate, and make a meaningful impact.

A typical day for a Vascular Technician may include:

  • Vascular Studies & Clinical Knowledge: Performs necessary test protocols—including operating diagnostic equipment and analyzing blood flow patterns—on patients in the lab, at bedside, in the Emergency Room, Recovery Room, or in the Operating Room as deemed necessary by a physician.
  • Lab Efficiency & Scheduling: Coordinates clinical throughput to manage workflow, prioritizing testing locations and maintaining Vascular Laboratory standards as set by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL).
  • Advanced Clinical Support: Performs ultrasound-guided pseudo-aneurysm compressions and assists vascular surgeons directly with ultrasound-guided pseudo-aneurysm injections.
  • Documentation & Communication: Provides clear preliminary reports for all patients and immediately contacts the attending or referring physician if a critical finding is obtained.
  • Safety & Compliance: Actively promotes and adheres to safe clinical practices (such as LeapFrog, Never Events, and National Patient Safety Goals) to maintain the laboratory's standard of excellence.

This role might be for you if:

  • Clear, compassionate communication defines how you interact with patients, families, and colleagues
  • Attention to detail and technical precision guide your work every day
  • You remain calm and adaptable while managing a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Patient safety and delivering high-quality diagnostic imaging are your top priorities
  • You enjoy working collaboratively with providers and interdisciplinary care teams
  • Continuous learning and professional growth motivate you
  • Creating a positive, reassuring patient experience is central to your approach

To be considered for this Vascular Technician opportunity, you must:

  • Education: Graduate of a formal Ultrasound Training Program.
  • Experience: Previous experience working within a dedicated Vascular Laboratory.
  • Certification: Active Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT through ARDMS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS through CCI) certification.
    • Note: Registry-eligible candidates may be hired but must sit for the registry exam within 6 months of hire and successfully pass within the first year of employment.
