Position Summary:
The University of New Mexico (UNM)School of Medicine (SOM) Department of Surgery is seeking a urologic surgicaloncologist. This appointment will bewithin the Department of Surgery, in the Division of Urology. This position is being recruited at the OpenRank level; salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The ideal candidate will have acommitment to patient-centered care and a collaborative approach to workingwith multidisciplinary teams. A strongcommitment to patient care, teaching and scholarly activity is essential. Surgical care for patients with complexurologic cancers is a critical need for the patients of New Mexico.
The UNM Health Sciences Center is oneof only 29 institutions nationally that has both a NIH (NCI) designated CancerCenter (Comprehensive Cancer Center) and a NIH sponsored Clinical andTranslational Science Center. We are theonly level I ACS Trauma Program in New Mexico. UNMH has 629 beds for adult, pediatric and psychiatric care. A new hospital tower, with state-of-the-artoperating rooms and expanded adult critical care capacity is now open.
Albuquerque, New Mexico, is aculturally rich and naturally beautiful metropolitan area. It is best known for the annual AlbuquerqueInternational Balloon Fiesta. New Mexicois the home of two national laboratories, Sandia (in Albuquerque) and LosAlamos. Kirtland Air Force Base alsohouses the Air Force Research Laboratory. Year-round good weather (more than 300 days of sunshine per year) andeasy access to the outdoors (the Sandia mountain wilderness is 20 minutes fromUNM) make Albuquerque an incredible area for outdoor enthusiasts. New Mexico has a great diversity inlandscapes and wildlife, containing 6 of the 7 "Life Zones" on Earth.

- Board certified/eligible in GeneralSurgery or Urology, or equivalent experience
- Fellowship in urologic oncology
- Eligible for licensure in New Mexico
- Eligible to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in robotic and minimallyinvasive surgery
- Strong commitment tomultidisciplinary cancer care and program development
- Excellent communication andinterpersonal skills
- Diagnose, treat, and manage cancersof the urinary tract and male reproductive organs, providing comprehensivepatient care from consultation through follow-up
- Perform complex urologic oncologicsurgeries, including minimally invasive and robotic-assisted procedures,focusing on both oncologic and functional outcomes
- Experience in medical education
- Experience in research
- Significant record of academicachievement
- A demonstrated commitment tocultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and tothe success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities
