Position Summary:
The Universityof New Mexico School of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery is recruiting aboard certified or board eligible, Open Rank, Open Track, generalneurosurgeon with a focused experience in treating brain trauma and spinedisorders; comfort managing basic pediatric conditions is welcome but notrequired. Enthusiastic interest in leading and growing such as neurosurgicalpractice is needed. Successful candidates will join 12 establishedneurosurgeons and neurocritical care doctors practicing and teachingneurosurgery residents at the University of New Mexico.

The Universityof New Mexico is the only tertiary referral neurosurgical center and Level 1trauma center in the state of 2.3 million people. There is significant need andopportunity to expand our general neurosurgical practice, especially that ofbrain and spinal trauma and degenerative spine disorders. Overall, thedepartment has a comprehensive practice encompassing the full range ofneurological disorders in both adult and pediatric patients. This practice issupported by an experienced group of 24 advanced practice providers, has anexpanding ACGME-approved residency, and is predominantly based in a newlyopened and equipped Critical Care Tower.

  • Certificationby the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS) or its internationalequivalent or completion, by start date, of an Accreditation Council forGraduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited residency in neurological surgery

  • Academicneurosurgery practice; with a minimum of one year as fellow or attendingsurgeon, working with residents and students
  • Teaching: withlectures and presentations listed
  • Scholarly activity;with evidence of publication, participation in clinical/ translationalresearch, and/or independent funding of research
  • Commitment toCommunity; with a demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of therich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the University'smission to serve local and global communities
