Description:

Boater’s World Manufacturing Group is seeking Cut & Grind Technicians to join our boat manufacturing operation in Chocowinity, North Carolina.

The Cut & Grind Technician is responsible for cutting, trimming, grinding, sanding, and preparing fiberglass boat components throughout the manufacturing process. This position works primarily with fiberglass hulls, decks, and molded components to remove excess material, smooth surfaces, prepare edges, and ensure parts meet established specifications before moving to the next stage of production.

Previous fiberglass or boat manufacturing experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong hands-on experience using grinders, sanders, saws, and other power tools in construction, automotive, manufacturing, fabrication, or similar environments are encouraged to apply.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Cutting, Grinding & Finishing

  • Cut, trim, grind, and sand fiberglass hulls, decks, and other molded boat components
  • Remove excess fiberglass, resin, flashing, and other material from completed parts
  • Grind and smooth rough edges, seams, joints, and surfaces according to production requirements
  • Prepare fiberglass components for assembly, repair, bonding, or additional finishing
  • Cut openings and access points according to established measurements, templates, and specifications
  • Use grinders, sanders, saws, cutting tools, and other hand and power tools safely and effectively
  • Follow templates, measurements, markings, and work instructions to ensure accurate cuts
  • Maintain proper surface profiles and dimensions while avoiding unnecessary damage to components
  • Perform detail grinding and finishing in areas requiring additional preparation
  • Assist with minor fiberglass preparation or repair work as assigned
  • Meet established production expectations while maintaining quality workmanship

Quality & Inspection

  • Inspect fiberglass components before and after cutting and grinding
  • Verify cuts, edges, openings, and surfaces meet established production requirements
  • Identify cracks, voids, delamination, thin areas, surface defects, or other fiberglass concerns
  • Report significant defects or quality concerns to the appropriate supervisor
  • Correct cutting or grinding issues when appropriate and within the scope of the position
  • Help prevent unnecessary damage, scrap, and rework through accurate tool operation
  • Maintain consistent workmanship throughout the production process

Production Support

  • Coordinate with Lamination, Gelcoat Repair, Assembly, Quality, and other production departments
  • Prepare completed components for the next stage of manufacturing
  • Move and position fiberglass components as required to complete assigned work
  • Communicate production delays, damaged components, equipment concerns, or material issues
  • Assist other production areas with cutting, grinding, sanding, or fiberglass preparation as needed
  • Support production priorities and changing manufacturing requirements

Tools, Equipment & Housekeeping

  • Safely operate grinders, sanders, saws, drills, cutting tools, and other assigned equipment
  • Inspect tools and equipment before use and report damaged or malfunctioning equipment
  • Perform basic cleaning and care of assigned tools and equipment
  • Maintain an organized supply of tools and production materials
  • Properly manage fiberglass dust and debris according to established procedures
  • Keep workstations and surrounding production areas clean and organized

Safety & Environmental

  • Follow all established safety procedures when cutting, grinding, sanding, and handling fiberglass materials
  • Properly use required eye, hearing, respiratory, hand, and other personal protective equipment
  • Follow company requirements related to dust collection, ventilation, housekeeping, and equipment safety
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, injuries, or other hazards
  • Follow all company environmental, health, safety, quality, and production procedures
Requirements:
  • Previous hands-on manufacturing, construction, fabrication, automotive, fiberglass, composites, or similar experience preferred
  • Experience using grinders, sanders, saws, drills, or similar hand and power tools
  • Ability to accurately follow measurements, templates, markings, and work instructions
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to perform detailed cutting, grinding, sanding, and finishing work
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a production team
  • Dependable attendance and ability to work a consistent manufacturing schedule
  • Ability to follow all safety procedures and properly use required PPE

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous fiberglass or composites manufacturing experience
  • Previous boat or marine manufacturing experience
  • Experience cutting and grinding fiberglass hulls, decks, or molded components
  • Experience with pneumatic and electric grinders, sanders, and cutting tools
  • Experience working from templates, measurements, or production specifications
  • Experience identifying common fiberglass or composite defects
  • Marine, automotive, RV, construction, fabrication, or other manufacturing experience

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in an active boat manufacturing environment
  • Regular exposure to fiberglass dust, composite materials, noise, vibration, tools, equipment, odors, and varying temperatures
  • Ability to stand and work for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, climb, crouch, and work in and around large boat components
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand, arm, and upper-body movements associated with cutting, grinding, and sanding
  • Ability to safely operate grinders, sanders, saws, and other power tools
  • Ability to lift, carry, position, and move materials and components as required by the position
  • Must wear required PPE and follow all facility safety procedures
  • Where respirator use is required, must satisfy applicable medical-evaluation and fit-testing requirements
