In this role, you will act as a key technical expert supporting complex interconnection and transmission planning studies across multiple ISOs and utilities in North America. You will work on challenging power system problems involving renewable integration, large load growth, and grid reliability, using advanced simulation tools and modeling techniques. The position combines deep technical analysis with client-facing advisory responsibilities, helping developers navigate evolving interconnection frameworks. You will also contribute to benchmarking studies, model validation, and the review of utility and ISO results to identify optimization opportunities. Beyond technical execution, you will support knowledge sharing, mentor engineers, and stay aligned with evolving regulatory and industry standards. This is a high-impact role at the center of modern grid transformation and energy system planning.
In this role, you will lead and contribute to advanced power system studies while supporting clients and internal teams in solving complex interconnection challenges.
- Perform detailed interconnection studies including load flow, short circuit, and transient stability analysis across multiple ISOs and utilities
- Develop, validate, and benchmark IBR and large load models in line with ISO and utility requirements
- Review and replicate interconnection study results to identify discrepancies, risks, and optimization opportunities
- Support generation, large load, and merchant transmission developers in navigating interconnection processes
- Collaborate with engineering teams to deliver high-quality studies aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirements
- Stay current with evolving FERC, NERC, ISO, and utility interconnection frameworks and industry trends
- Support innovation initiatives, contributing to the development of new tools, methodologies, and services
- Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing across internal teams and project stakeholders
The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in power system analysis, interconnection processes, and grid modeling, combined with a collaborative and problem-solving mindset.
- 4+ years of experience in the electric power industry, preferably in interconnection or transmission planning
- Strong experience with inverter-based resource (IBR) modeling and grid integration studies
- Solid understanding of FERC, NERC, and ISO interconnection standards and procedures
- Proficiency in power system simulation tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, TARA, PowerWorld, ASPEN, or PSCAD
- Experience working with utilities, ISOs, or consulting on their behalf is highly valued
- Strong analytical skills with ability to diagnose and resolve complex system issues
- Familiarity with large-load interconnection studies is an advantage
- Programming or automation experience (Python, SQL, C#) is a plus
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
