Job Description

Intensivist

SUMMARY: The Intensivist will provide critical care intensive support for all patients admitted, including providing daily triage rounds, providing Critical Care consultation, managing Code Blues, supervising invasive procedures in the ICU and elsewhere at Highland as needed, and optimizing the use of ICU beds. The Intensivist is responsible for the expert provision of safe, efficient, patient-centered, and cost-effective care within the Hospital. This position reports to the Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.

1. Perform professional services as are necessary to assure the appropriate quality of care to Patients.

2. Provide consultation as requested by Medical Staff, including collaboration with emergency department physicians regarding an expedited response to the emergency department when requested.

3. Facilitate and manage the appropriate use of specialists and coordinate Patients’ care, including ordering specialists’ consultations.

4. Abide by all current and future federal, state and local laws, regulations and guidelines regarding the transfer of emergency patients to other health care facilities.

5. Complete all records and reports on a timely basis and in accordance with EBMG’s medical records policies and Medical Staff Bylaws.

6. Provide orientation and training regarding the Critical Care and Pulmonary Services for Hospital’s healthcare team.

7. Organize, attend and participate in Pulmonary and Critical Care meetings and other medical staff conferences including continuing education programs.

8. Plan and participate in in-service education programs for mid-level practitioners, nursing and other staff.

9. Serve as the Subspecialty Education Coordinator (SEC) for Pulmonary and Critical Care within the Internal Medicine residency program. This includes curriculum development, evaluating the Pulmonary and Critical Care program, and developing a strong structural foundation for Pulmonary and Critical Care education

10. Didactic lectures and board review for Internal Medicine residents.

11. Serving as a professional role model for trainees with peers, patients, families and other members of the health care team.

12. Report to hospital, on an as needed basis, material concerns about quality of care, delay in delivery of medical services to patients, or any patient concerns.

13. Cooperate with hospital in implementing new procedures, controls and systems to promote and facilitate quality, cost controls, reimbursement functions, standardization of products and equipment, and any other requests made by hospital.

14. Provide effective and timely communications to referring or admitting physicians, patient and family concerning the clinical status of each patient admitted through the Hospitalists Program.

15. Promote and maintains good public relations on behalf of hospital and assists hospital in attaining goals established regarding patient/employee/physician satisfaction in connection with delivery of clinical services. Pulmonary and Critical Care Specialist will be “goodwill ambassadors” of the hospital.

16. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of PulmChair of Medicine, Associate Chief Medical Officer and/or the Chief Medical Officer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) is required.

Minimum Experience: Completion of accredited ACGME or AOA Internal Medicine Residency and Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship.

Required Licenses/Certifications: Board certified or eligible in Pulmonary and Critical Care.

Required Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of California.

Valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Number.

Pay Range: $198.75 - $209.25 per hour

The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure, and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization.
