Pay Range: $25.00–$28.00 per hour
The Facilities Manager is responsible for the overall care, maintenance, safety, cleanliness, and day-to-day operation of Camp Fire Long Beach's properties and physical assets. This is a hands-on management position responsible for ensuring that Camp Fire's facilities, grounds, buildings, equipment, and outdoor program spaces are safe, functional, clean, welcoming, and well maintained for youth, families, staff, and community members.
The Facilities Manager oversees approximately 10.5 acres across Camp Fire Long Beach's primary campus and satellite property in North Long Beach. The position manages routine and preventive maintenance, grounds and landscape coordination, custodial services, utilities, waste services, facility vendors and contractors, minor repairs, equipment, and facility improvement projects.
While this position manages contractors and supervises facilities support staff, the Facilities Manager is also expected to work directly in the field and perform routine maintenance, repairs, grounds work, setup, cleanup, troubleshooting, and other physical tasks necessary to maintain the properties.
The Facilities Manager reports to the Director of Administration and supervises the part-time Facilities Assistant/Ranger.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESFacilities & Property Maintenance- Maintain Camp Fire Long Beach's buildings, grounds, outdoor spaces, program areas, offices, storage areas, parking areas, trails, and other physical assets.
- Conduct routine property inspections and proactively identify maintenance, repair, cleanliness, safety, and improvement needs.
- Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for buildings, equipment, systems, and grounds.
- Complete routine repairs and maintenance, including basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, hardware, fixtures, furniture, and other general maintenance work within the employee's training and qualifications.
- Troubleshoot facility issues and determine whether work should be completed internally or by a qualified contractor.
- Ensure maintenance requests are prioritized and completed in a timely manner.
- Maintain organized maintenance areas, workshops, storage areas, tools, and supplies.
- Maintain an inventory of facility equipment, tools, keys, supplies, and other physical assets.
- Support ongoing facility improvement and capital projects.
- Ensure Camp Fire's approximately 10.5 acres of property are maintained to appropriate standards for youth programming and community use.
- Regularly inspect outdoor spaces for hazards, damage, irrigation issues, debris, vegetation concerns, trip hazards, or other conditions requiring attention.
- Coordinate landscape maintenance and monitor the performance of contracted landscaping services.
- Perform grounds maintenance and cleanup when needed beyond the scope of contracted services.
- Maintain pathways, gathering areas, outdoor program spaces, signage, fencing, gates, storage areas, and other property features.
- Coordinate seasonal property preparation, cleanup, and maintenance.
- Ensure facilities are consistently clean, organized, safe, and ready for daily programming and community use.
- Oversee the organization's contracted custodial services and ensure contracted work meets established expectations.
- Conduct regular inspections of restrooms, offices, program spaces, common areas, and outdoor areas.
- Address immediate cleaning or facility needs when necessary.
- Maintain appropriate custodial, restroom, maintenance, and facility supply levels.
- Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for facility-related vendors and contractors.
- Coordinate and monitor landscaping, custodial, pest control, waste and recycling, utilities, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire/life safety, security, and other facility-related services.
- Obtain quotes and coordinate contractor access and work with approval from the Director of Administration.
- Monitor contractor performance and confirm that contracted services are completed satisfactorily.
- Maintain organized records of service agreements, warranties, inspections, maintenance records, and vendor information.
- Identify opportunities to improve service quality, reduce unnecessary costs, and increase the useful life of Camp Fire's facilities and equipment.
- Monitor facility utilities and services, including electricity, water, gas, trash, recycling, and other property-related services.
- Identify unusual usage, service interruptions, leaks, equipment failures, or other concerns and coordinate corrective action.
- Monitor basic building systems and coordinate qualified vendors for repairs and inspections when necessary.
- Maintain schedules for recurring inspections, servicing, certifications, and preventive maintenance.
- Support conservation and responsible use of water, energy, and other resources.
- Regularly inspect properties for potential safety hazards and immediately address or report concerns.
- Maintain clear walkways, exits, emergency access areas, and safe program environments.
- Coordinate required inspections and servicing of facility safety equipment and systems.
- Maintain appropriate documentation of facility inspections, repairs, and corrective actions.
- Immediately report significant facility, safety, security, or property concerns to the Director of Administration.
- Assist organizational leadership in responding to facility emergencies, weather events, utility interruptions, property damage, or other urgent situations.
- Ensure contractors and facilities staff follow appropriate safety procedures while working on Camp Fire property.
- Supervise, train, schedule, and provide day-to-day direction to the part-time Facilities Assistant/Ranger.
- Assign and prioritize daily, weekly, seasonal, and project-based facilities work.
- Monitor completion and quality of assigned work.
- Coordinate facilities priorities with the Director of Administration and other Camp Fire leadership.
- Help create a responsive facilities operation that supports the needs of Camp Fire's programs, staff, youth, families, and events.
- Coordinate facility preparation for camps, community events, trainings, meetings, rentals, and other organizational activities.
- Assist with setup and breakdown of tables, chairs, equipment, signage, activity areas, and other event needs.
- Ensure facilities are prepared prior to major events and restored following events.
- Coordinate facility access and logistics for vendors, deliveries, contractors, and event partners.
- Work collaboratively with program and administrative teams to anticipate facility needs.
- Maintain a comprehensive facility maintenance calendar and work-order/task tracking system.
- Recommend repair, replacement, and improvement priorities to the Director of Administration.
- Assist in developing annual facility maintenance and improvement budgets.
- Monitor facilities-related expenses and purchases within approved budgets.
- Purchase approved maintenance materials, equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Maintain receipts, purchase records, warranties, manuals, maintenance records, and other required documentation.
- Assist leadership with planning larger facility improvements and capital projects.
- Identify deferred maintenance issues and recommend short- and long-term solutions.
- Minimum three years of experience in facilities maintenance, property maintenance, building operations, grounds maintenance, construction, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience performing general maintenance and repair work.
- Ability to independently identify facility problems, prioritize work, and determine appropriate solutions.
- Experience coordinating contractors, vendors, or service providers.
- Ability to supervise and direct the work of another employee.
- Working knowledge of tools, equipment, and safe maintenance practices.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple properties and competing maintenance priorities.
- Ability to communicate professionally with staff, vendors, contractors, families, and community members.
- Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Five or more years of progressively responsible facilities, property, construction, or maintenance experience.
- Previous experience in a camp, school, youth-serving organization, park, recreation facility, nonprofit, or other multi-use property.
- Experience supervising maintenance or facilities employees.
- Experience with preventive maintenance systems and facility project management.
- Knowledge or experience in basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, irrigation, landscaping, painting, HVAC troubleshooting, or related trades.
- OSHA, CPR/First Aid, facilities management, trade, or related certifications.
This is an active, hands-on facilities position. The Facilities Manager must be able to:
- Regularly walk and inspect large outdoor properties, including uneven terrain.
- Frequently stand, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, push, pull, and perform physical maintenance work.
- Safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, maintenance equipment, and grounds equipment within the employee's training and qualifications.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Travel between Camp Fire Long Beach properties as needed.
- Respond to occasional urgent facility needs outside of the employee's regular work schedule.
- Perform physical setup and breakdown for organizational programs and events.

SUCCESS IN THIS POSITIONA successful Facilities Manager takes ownership of Camp Fire's physical environment. Rather than waiting for problems to be reported, this person regularly walks the properties, notices what needs attention, develops a plan, and follows through.
Success means Camp Fire's properties are safe, clean, functional, organized, welcoming, and ready for youth programming; routine maintenance happens before equipment or facilities fail; contractors are effectively managed; maintenance needs are documented and prioritized; and organizational leadership has a clear understanding of the condition and needs of Camp Fire's facilities.
The Facilities Manager is both a manager and a Ranger — someone who can coordinate people, vendors, budgets, and projects while also being willing and able to roll up their sleeves and take care of the property.
COMPENSATIONPay Range: $25.00–$28.00 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated facilities and trades knowledge.
This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position eligible for Camp Fire Long Beach's benefits in accordance with organizational policies.
