Position Summary

The Registered Nurse works in conjunction with the team APRN to organize and manage the system of administering medication; deliver medication administration and medical services; and provide a range of treatment, rehabilitation, and support services.

Essential Duties

Collaborate with the team Psychiatrist or APRN to manage the medication system, administer medications and medical services, arrange for required lab work, and complete needed documentation for the management of the medication system.

  • Screen and monitor clients for medical problems/side effects while also educating both clients and other team members on side effects.
  • Screen new admits for high-risk factors, complete initial assessments, and assist with other intake processes relevant to the scope of the position.
  • Communicate and coordinate services with other medical professionals (e.g., pharmacy employees, medication representatives, and other treatment providers).
  • Collaborate with clients to develop strategies to maximize the taking of medications as prescribed (e.g., behavioral tailoring, development of individual cues and reminders).
  • Complete documentation in a timely manner.
  • Participate in daily staff organizational meetings and treatment planning review meetings.
  • Complete documentation and meet minimum service time based on the mental health program requirements.
  • Provide training and education to staff, clients, and others in health and medication related topics as needed.
  • Ensure clients are current on immunizations, TB Tests, and labs as needed.
  • Attend work on a regular and predictable basis.

Non-Essential Duties:

  • Maintain good professional relationships with appropriate community figures, referral sources, and other professionals.
  • Maintain and enhance professional skills and knowledge through attending conferences/ workshops/courses and reading professional materials that are relevant to job requirements and approved by the Program Manager. Maintain all continuing education requirements in order to maintain professional level and status.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with and adherence to Utah laws regarding confidentiality and mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Conduct professional life in accordance with the standards of his/her discipline and the clinical policies and procedures of the agency.
  • Maintain familiarity with issues and trends in the behavioral health field including comorbid mental health issues, advances in psychopharmacology, theory, and evidence-based practices.
  • Performs other functions as necessary or assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Current RN license in the state of Utah.
  • Experience working in in inpatient psychiatric settings preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals diagnosed with a serious mental illness and/or substance use disorder preferred.
  • Demonstrates an ability to use sound judgment within the scope of the position’s responsibilities.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and adapt to change.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, self-starter.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated skills in crisis intervention.
  • Computer literate with familiarity of Microsoft Office.Computer literate with familiarity of Microsoft Office.

  • Willingness to accept supervision and direction.
  • Become CPR and First Aid Certified.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age, possess a current driver’s license, have a good driving record, and be insurable on the agency’s liability policy.
  • Must be able to pass Utah-DHS – Office of Licensing background screening and pre-employment drug screen.

Physical Demands Physical Demands

  • Ability to move around the facility, interacting with clients for 12-hour shifts.
  • Work is performed in a residential treatment center environment. May entail using a computer for extended periods of time.
