Location: Salt Lake City, UT
Position Type: Full time (30-40+ hours/week), hourly.
Schedule: Day Shift Only, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM (10-hour shifts)

Position Description:
Vighter is recruiting Registered Nurses (RN) to provide patient care support within the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) at the Salt Lake City VA Health Care System. The AMU is an outpatient unit, providing specialized infusion, injection, and procedural care to Veterans. This position is ideal for nurses with experience in acute care and/or outpatient infusion services who possess strong assessment, critical thinking, and multitasking skills in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Principle Accountabilities:
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments for adult patients receiving infusion, injection, and procedural services.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, injections, blood products, and treatments in accordance with provider orders and VA policies.
- Provide pre-procedure and post-procedure nursing care and monitoring.
- Utilize sterile technique for clinical procedures, including management of ports and Foley catheters.
- Demonstrate proficiency in peripheral intravenous (PIV) placement and vascular access management.
- Monitor patient conditions, vital signs, and responses to treatment.
- Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition or medical emergencies.
- Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans.
- Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, specialists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, procedures, and follow-up care.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical record (EMR) documentation.
- Ensure compliance with VA standards, Joint Commission regulations, infection control guidelines, and patient safety protocols.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education activities.
- Support a culture of professionalism, respect, and compassionate care for Veterans.
Education:
- Holds a diploma, Associate of Science degree from an NLN accredited university and holds a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any State.
- Has and maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Minimum of 1–2 years of inpatient acute care nursing or outpatient infusion services experience.
- Experience with: Infusion therapy administration, Pre-procedure and post-procedure patient care, Sterile technique, Port access and maintenance, Foley catheter management
- Previous or current Chemotherapy Certification preferred.
- Strong PIV insertion and vascular access skills.
- Excellent patient assessment and critical thinking abilities.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a diverse clinical environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while functioning as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand or sit for more than 8 hours per day.
- Must be willing to work overtime if necessary.
- Must be able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 10 feet.
- Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders.
- Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print.
- Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
- Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation.
- Must undergo urine drug screening (UDS).
