Job Summary

This position performs inspections to ensure compliance with city codes and ordinances. An incumbent in this position may be designated “Code Enforcement Officer I,” “Code Enforcement Officer II,” or “Code Enforcement Officer III.”

Major Duties

• Enforces the city’s zoning ordinance.

• Enforces the city sign ordinances, including processing sign permit applications; conducts field audits to identify illegal signs; removes signs from right-of-way; maintains written records and prepares related reports.

• Responds to citizen complaints concerning ordinance violations.

• Conducts fields inspections of alleged city code and ordinances; prepares written inspection reports; issues warnings and citations.

• Collects photographic evidence of inspection results.

• Prepares cases for trial; testifies in court as required.

• Answers inquiries and provides information to the general public regarding planning and zoning regulations and policies.

• Assists in the provision of staff support to committees and planning groups; attends meetings and provides technical guidance.

• Performs related duties.

Knowledge Required by the Position
