Avesta Housing is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to support the day-to-day financial operations that keep our communities strong.
In this essential support role, you'll assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable, help maintain organized financial records, and collaborate closely with Accounting Specialists and Property Management staff. Your careful attention to detail, strong judgment, and respect for confidentiality will help ensure timely, accurate financial processing. What We're Looking For
The person who is ready for this opportunity will have:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to multitask and reprioritize tasks independently based on departmental needs.
- Strong professional judgement.
- Associate degree or certificate in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience considered.
- Experience in an accounting, banking or administrative support role preferred.
- Working knowledge of basic accounting principles preferred.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite

This is a full-time (37.5 hours/week) position, and the hourly rate of pay is $20.50 - $24.00.
Work Location
This job is on-site at our headquarters located at 307 Cumberland Ave, Portland, Maine.
