Job Description

Senior Power Systems Engineer

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Power Systems Engineer in Canada.

This senior-level engineering role focuses on advancing the planning, analysis, and reliability of modern electric power systems, with a strong emphasis on grid modernization and renewable integration. You will lead complex transmission and bulk power system studies while guiding multidisciplinary engineering teams through technical execution and delivery. The position combines deep analytical modeling with client-facing responsibilities, requiring clear communication of complex results to utilities, system operators, and stakeholders. You will perform advanced steady-state, dynamic, and transient stability analyses using industry-standard tools, contributing directly to the development of resilient grid infrastructure. In addition to technical leadership, you will help define study methodologies, improve engineering processes, and support innovation in power system modeling. This is a high-impact role where your expertise influences both project outcomes and broader grid transformation initiatives. You will work in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment focused on building the future of energy systems.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead and execute advanced bulk power system studies using tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, Aspen, and TARA.
  • Perform steady-state, short-circuit, and dynamic/transient stability analyses to support transmission planning and grid reliability assessments.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to electrical engineers, supporting skill development and high-quality analysis delivery.
  • Develop mitigation strategies for identified system constraints, stability concerns, and operational risks.
  • Conduct specialized power system studies, including sub-synchronous resonance and other advanced grid behavior analyses.
  • Review and enhance transmission planning methodologies, engineering processes, and technical standards.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to communicate findings, address requirements, and guide technical decision-making.
  • Ensure timely delivery of projects while meeting defined quality, budget, and performance objectives.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and analytical capabilities.
  • Support business development efforts through technical input and proposal development.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a focus on power systems preferred.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in power systems engineering, including steady-state and dynamic analysis.
  • Strong expertise with industry tools such as PSS/E and TARA, with familiarity in additional simulation platforms.
  • Solid understanding of power system fundamentals, transient stability, and grid operation principles.
  • Experience working with North American power regions and ISOs/RTOs (e.g., PJM, MISO, ERCOT, CAISO, SPP, WECC, NYISO, SERC, NEISO).
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills for client-facing reports and presentations.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with PSCAD or EMT studies is considered a strong asset.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation package aligned with experience and expertise.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage, with premium coverage for employees.
  • Generous PTO and paid holidays.
  • 401(k) plan with employer matching (up to 4%), fully vested from day one.
  • Employee ownership program offering long-term value participation.
  • Flexible work arrangements, including remote and hybrid options depending on role requirements.
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge grid modernization and renewable energy integration projects.
  • Collaboration with industry-leading experts in power systems engineering.
