Job summary
The Procurement and Inventory Manager oversees procurement, inventory, and logistics for our compounding pharmacy. This role ensures timely availability of raw materials, ingredients, and supplies while maintaining regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate brings experience in pharmaceutical supply chains, inventory control, and vendor management across sterile and non-sterile compounding environments.
Key responsibilities
Procurement & supplier management
- Strategically source and procure pharmaceutical ingredients, excipients, packaging, and sterile compounding materials from approved vendors
- Cultivate strong supplier relationships ensuring consistent quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely deliveries
- Negotiate favorable pricing and contracts in strict adherence to USP <795>, <797>, and <800> guidelines
Inventory control
- Monitor and manage inventory levels of APIs, bases, and compounding supplies to prevent shortages or overstocking
- Develop and implement demand forecasting models based on prescription trends and regulatory requirements
- Ensure proper storage and handling of temperature-sensitive and hazardous materials
Compliance & documentation
- Guarantee full compliance with FDA, DEA, state pharmacy board, and USP guidelines
- Maintain meticulous records including lot tracking, MSDS documentation, and chain of custody for controlled substances
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance to verify all raw materials meet compounding standards
Logistics & operations
- Oversee and optimize inbound and outbound shipments with couriers and distributors
- Ensure cold-chain logistics compliance for temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals
- Identify supply chain disruptions and implement contingency plans
- Leverage ERP systems to enhance inventory tracking and operational efficiency
- Align inventory levels with production needs in close collaboration with compounding pharmacists and technicians
Qualifications
Required
- Certificate or bachelor's degree in supply chain management, pharmacy, business, or related field
- 2+ years of experience in pharmaceutical, compounding pharmacy, or healthcare supply chain management
- Proficiency in pharmacy inventory management systems (PioneerRx, QS/1, or similar)
- Strong knowledge of USP <795>, <797>, and <800> compounding guidelines
- Knowledge of DEA reporting and controlled substance management
- Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT)
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment
