Job Description

Position Overview: The Senior Director of Software Engineering is the senior technical leader for Arcadian Infracom's software platform, architecture, and governance. This role owns the architecture, design, and delivery of the customer experience platform and supporting integrations required for route service readiness in December 2026, and is accountable for the ongoing health, evolution, and scalability of Arcadian's software stack thereafter. The role acts as Arcadian's technical conscience opposite external implementation partners, holds the line on architectural rigor, and grows the internal engineering function over time as the platform matures and Artificial Intelligence becomes embedded.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. The successful candidate will write code on critical-path integrations and platform components (estimated 30 to 50 percent of time in the first year), while also owning architecture decisions, managing contractor delivery, and establishing the engineering practices that will scale with the business.

Role and Responsibilities

Architecture and Platform Ownership

  • Own the target architecture for Arcadian's software ecosystem, including Salesforce (Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Experience Cloud), NetSuite, SiteTracker, GIS/ESRI, contract lifecycle management (IntelAgree), business intelligence (Power BI, Tableau), NOC tooling, and the integration fabric that connects them along with managing the artificial intelligence model(s) such as Claude, as they become embedded within business operations and customer-facing solutions.
  • Define and maintain the system-of-record model, master data architecture (customer, account, service inventory, site), and identity and access architecture for internal users and external customer portal users. Own data governance and single-source-of-truth alignment as an ongoing mandate across the enterprise system landscape.
  • Support operational execution by designing the systems and workflows behind inventory and production management, approval routing, and financial alignment, ensuring operational data is reliable and visible across functions.
  • Design integrations across the carrier ecosystem, including connections to provisioning systems, NOC monitoring stacks (LightRiver netFLEX/Prism, Fujitsu OSS), DCN telemetry sources, and applicable industry platforms such as iconectiv/TruNumbering, Telcordia/TruOps, and ConnectBase.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards: source control, environment strategy, CI/CD posture, code review practices, release management, observability, and security posture for both Salesforce and adjacent platforms. Provide technical governance over the broader application landscape and the evolving artificial intelligence ecosystem to ensure scalability, reliability, compliance, and architectural consistency.
  • Lead architecture reviews for all significant changes to the platform, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and alignment with the long-term operating model rather than short-term implementation pressure.

Hands-On Engineering

  • Build critical-path components personally, including key integrations, custom Salesforce development (Apex, LWC, Experience Cloud), and integration middleware where appropriate.
  • Conduct code reviews for work delivered by external implementation partners and any future internal engineers, holding the line on quality, maintainability, and architectural fit.
  • Debug and resolve complex production and pre-production issues across the integrated platform, including cross-system data and process failures.
  • Author technical documentation including architecture decision records, integration specifications, runbooks, and onboarding material for future team members.

External Partner and Vendor Management

  • Manage external implementation partners including the firm responsible for the Salesforce-centered customer experience platform build, holding them accountable to the architecture, timeline, quality standards, and contractual deliverables.
  • Participate in and lead design reviews, sprint ceremonies, and working sessions with contractor teams. Act as Arcadian's primary technical decision-maker in those forums.
  • Evaluate and select additional vendors, platforms, and tools as needed, with appropriate input from operations, finance, and executive leadership.
  • Coordinate with platform vendors (Salesforce, NetSuite, SiteTracker, and others) on roadmap, support escalations, and technical advisory.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner with the Vice President of Operations, Commercial leadership, NOC leadership, and Finance to translate business needs into technical solutions and to communicate technical tradeoffs in business terms.
  • Serve as the senior technical voice in cross-functional planning, executive briefings, and customer-facing technical conversations as needed.
  • Collaborate with the NOC team to define the integration between operational monitoring systems and the customer-facing experience platform.

Team Building

  • Recruit and hire additional engineers as the platform and business scale, beginning with a Senior Salesforce Developer within the first six months and adding integration and platform engineering capacity thereafter.
  • Build the engineering practices that the future team will operate within, including hiring standards, onboarding, code review culture, and technical career development.
  • Mentor and develop engineers as the team grows, with the opportunity to move into broader engineering leadership over time based on demonstrated impact.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Ten or more years of professional software engineering experience, with at least three years in a Principal, Staff, or Lead Architect role.
  • Demonstrated history of owning end-to-end architecture for a multi-system enterprise platform, including integration design across CRM, ERP, and operational systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Salesforce platform development, including Apex, Lightning Web Components, and Experience Cloud, or demonstrated equivalent platform depth with a clear path to Salesforce competency.
  • Strong proficiency in modern programming languages such as Python, TypeScript or JavaScript, and SQL.
  • Experience designing and operating integrations using enterprise integration platforms (MuleSoft, Workato, Boomi, or equivalent), event-driven patterns, and REST and GraphQL APIs.
  • Track record of managing external development partners or contractor teams, holding them accountable to architecture, quality, and timeline.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical executive stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as the senior technical voice in a small or mid-stage organization, including comfort with autonomy, ambiguity, and direct executive interaction.

Strongly Preferred

  • Experience in the telecommunications, fiber, or carrier industry, including familiarity with OSS/BSS systems, network inventory, provisioning workflows, and carrier-ecosystem platforms (iconectiv, Telcordia, ConnectBase, or similar).
  • Experience building or operating customer-facing portals for B2B customers, including identity federation, role-based access, and real-time operational data display.
  • Salesforce certifications such as Platform Developer II, Application Architect, or System Architect.
  • Experience working in early-stage or growth-stage venture-backed companies, particularly in infrastructure or capital-intensive industries.

Personal Attributes

  • Operates with autonomy and judgment; does not require a technical manager to validate decisions.
  • Earns trust through delivery and clarity rather than title or volume.
  • Comfortable being the only technical voice in a room of non-technical executives, and able to translate without condescension or jargon.
  • Holds high standards for craft and architecture and is patient enough to teach and develop those standards in others over time.
  • Treats vendor relationships as partnerships to be managed, not as adversaries or as authorities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
