Job Description
The EMT is a professional member of the prehospital healthcare team who provides basic life support care and safe patient transport. This role supports patient care under medical direction and works collaboratively with paramedics and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality emergency medical services.

Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, providing basic life support care in accordance with established protocols
Assess patient condition and prioritize treatment and transport decisions
Administer appropriate treatments including airway management, oxygen, medications, splinting, and resuscitation measures
Assist with patient extrication and safe transport
Clinical Communication & Documentation
Communicate effectively with receiving facilities and medical personnel to coordinate patient care
Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, and outcomes in accordance with district standards
Provide clear and concise patient handoff at medical facilities
Operations & Response
Operate emergency vehicles safely in compliance with district policies
Maintain awareness of service area geography, including roadways and landmarks
Communicate professionally via radio and other communication systems
Equipment & Readiness
Maintain ambulance and equipment readiness, including cleaning, restocking, and basic maintenance
Identify and report equipment or vehicle issues promptly
Professional Standards
Maintain a professional appearance and represent the district positively
Participate in ongoing training and maintain current knowledge of protocols, procedures, and equipment
Education
High school diploma or GED required
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in EMS or related field preferred
Licensure & Certifications (Required)
Valid state-issued driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Missouri EMT License (or eligibility for licensure)
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
Certifications (Required within timeframe if not held at hire)
Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or equivalent
Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC) or equivalent
Hazardous Materials Awareness
NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800
Other Requirements
Must meet district driving and insurance eligibility requirements
Ability to maintain all required certifications throughout employment
