Summary

The Dining Room Server is responsible for providing courteous, timely, and efficient meal service to residents and guests in a clean and welcoming dining environment. This position ensures accurate order delivery, maintains dining room readiness, and supports a high-quality hospitality experience. The Dining Room Server collaborates closely with dietary team members to meet resident needs and uphold safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards.

Essential Functions

  • Greet residents and guests warmly and provide attentive table service throughout meals.
  • Take food and beverage orders accurately, clarify dietary needs or preferences, and communicate orders effectively to kitchen staff.
  • Deliver meals promptly and ensure orders are correct, appealing, and consistent with dietary guidelines.
  • Clear and reset tables between seatings; maintain clean, organized dining areas.
  • Refill beverages, offer additional items, and respond promptly to resident and guest requests.
  • Assist with meal setup, stocking service stations, and ensuring dining areas are fully prepared before each service.
  • Monitor the dining room for resident safety and comfort, reporting concerns as needed.
  • Follow all sanitation, food safety, and infection control practices, including safe dish handling and proper glove use.
  • Maintain knowledge of menu items, portion sizes, and dietary restrictions to assist residents effectively.
  • Interact with residents, families, and visitors in a professional, respectful, and customer-focused manner.
  • Maintain professional and cooperative interactions with residents, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Uphold resident rights, confidentiality, and facility standards of care.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws, including HIPAA and the Code of Conduct, completing required training and reporting concerns promptly.
  • This position is designated as essential to the operations of the organization. Team members in this role may be required to report into work (on-site at the community) during emergencies, inclement weather, or other situations when the organization remains operational.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and carry serving trays throughout the shift.
  • Frequently required to bend, reach, stoop, and perform repetitive motions associated with table service.
  • Frequently required to lift and carry up to 10–15 pounds (e.g., trays, dish racks, beverage pitchers).
  • Visual and auditory acuity needed to read tickets, identify food items, and communicate in a dining environment with background noise.

Work Environment

  • Always works indoors in dining rooms, service stations, and kitchen support areas.
  • Frequently exposed to noise, heat from kitchen equipment, and moving carts.

  • May encounter spills or wet floors; must follow safety protocols.
  • Never operates motor vehicles as part of job responsibilities.

  • Ability to learn and follow dietary guidelines and special diet considerations.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with culinary and dining staff to ensure smooth service flow.
  • Professional demeanor, patience, and sensitivity when assisting older adults.
