Nurse Manager - Hospital Operations
Operations Overview
Nursing Operations supports hospital-wide throughput, patient movement, staffing optimization, and real‑time problem solving.
The Nurse Manager holds direct operational and leadership responsibility for the Patient Transfer Center and Staffing Office, and strategic oversight of the PSA program through a dedicated supervisor.
This role requires a leader who is:
• highly visible,
• embedded in daily operations,
• able to step into the workflow when needed,
• and capable of balancing hands‑on stabilization with strategic leadership and improvement work.
Core Functions:
Patient placement, throughput coordination, staffing optimization, escalation support, and cross‑department collaboration.
Operational Characteristics:
• High‑volume, fast‑paced environment
• Frequent competing priorities and census variability
• 24/7 operational impact with day‑shift leadership presence expected
Responsibilities:
- Plans, directs, coordinates, coaches and evaluates the operational, fiscal and personnel activities within department to ensure the provision of quality patient care 24 hours a day
- Contributes to the strategic planning process and attainment of goals
- Continually advocates for available resources to promote efficient, effective, safe and compassionate nursing care based on current standards of practice
- Assumes the role of patient advocate when necessary to assist in clarifying and evaluating ethical issues and supports cultural practices
- Supervises and fosters a healing environment for our staff and patients
- Promotes shared decision making on the unit level and hospital Professional Nursing Council
- Acts as a resource and facilitates collaboration between nursing personnel and other health care disciplines throughout the organization and within the healthcare community
- Accountable for promoting ongoing development of all staff and for maintaining a professional environment in which all staff can grow and develop
- Promotes the ongoing leadership development of front line leadership
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program
- Licensed as a RN by the Idaho Board of Nursing OR licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the "multi-state privilege to practice" compact with Idaho
- BSN required
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a charge nurse or other equivalent leadership experience
- Master’s degree in nursing or relevant healthcare field preferred
- BLS Required. Current AHA Healthcare provider, American Red Cross, AHA Health Saver or KH BLS within 60 days of hire
